In a distressing reality check, the average American is in the throes of an unprecedented financial crisis, and the situation demands swift and decisive action. The stark numbers tell a harrowing tale: a staggering sixty percent of American families are on the brink, navigating the precarious path of living paycheck to paycheck. A record number are forced to take on second or even third jobs merely to stay afloat.

The hidden tax of inflation is hitting hard, with the average American worker now burdened with an extra $4.97 per hour—effectively doubling their federal income tax. This is not a mere statistic; it’s a wake-up call, urging all Americans to take their personal finances seriously, to stop sleepwalking through these turbulent times.

Illegals, wars, and electric cars we cannot afford. The answer is not to borrow more money.

Actually, I think it is worse. More corruption using foreign influences.

Yes, but do those struggling American connect their voting habits with their very real struggles?

Speaking as a Californian where struggling Californians voted overwhelmingly to continue a gas tax (gas here in So Cal is currently ≈ $4.85/gallon).

"The ballot measure proposed a repeal of the Road Repair and Accountability Act (a fuel tax). The measure failed with about 57% of the voters against and 43% in favor."

The kicker is the gas tax $$ is NOT used for "road repair" - it is put into the general fund for Newsom's lefty schemes. All it takes is one look at our decrepit, decaying roads.

Which Brandon takes credit for because the Unemployment Rate is ridiculously low...what with so many working 2-3 jobs!

See? Life is wonderful in Brandon Land! It’s all Rainbows and Skittle-F@rting Unicorns!

Yikes. It’s $2.88 in NC.

Does anyone in D.C. have the discipline to follow a budget?
The main objective is to buy votes for re-election, not doing the right thing.

Poor, dumb average Americans (/S) ... going in to debt just to make ends meet...all while ILLEGALS are given $5K, free phones, housing, meds, food, etc and....they don’t even have to go through TSA and be felt up, like you, at the airports.

99% of Americans will be financially worse-off than they were pre-pandemic by mid-2024, JPMorgan says.

It’s a small price to pay for no more mean tweets from the mean/bad orange man...

Yes, and we are so spread out here in So Cal with a very poor “metro” system - the “subways” and rail system go from nowhere to nowhere and the buses are known as dirty and dangerous. Meaning a lot of us commute long distances to get to work.

I don’t know of a single working person that takes public transportation to their job. Not a one. It’s just too inconvenient. One of my colleagues tried it once and said a 20 minute commute by car was 90 minutes via public transportation with three transfers.

I really resent those who complain constantly about the price of gas - but then continue to vote for the likes of Newsom and his ilk who are FOR higher gas taxes (highest in the nation), and vote down a chance to repeal a single tax.

Glad I’m retired and no longer filling up nearly as much.

True, but the subject of the thread is the average american, not politicians.

Amazing what making/following a budget has done for my finances.

The goal is to impoverish, immobilize, silence and disarm us. If you don’t think so, you simply haven’t been paying attention. The next question is: to what end?

I’ve stated in a few posts here on FR the horrid situation some of us in FL are facing with property tax, home insurance and auto insurance. I suspect there are many more in my situation where three years ago we were doing ok—getting by—and now it’s between paying those bills and food/medicine. Just my opinion, I think we are about to face a severe crisis with the middle class and seniors.

I really wish Trump would campaign on $2 gas. Everyone can instantly do the math on that and nearly all voters remember when it was the case under Trump I.

The incompetent in the White House allows that minstrel from Ukraine (who hasn’t the culture or decency to present himself in a suit and tie) to plead for Americans’ “hard-earned” tax-dollars! Can you imagine?
