Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis made headlines on the last day of 2023 after stating he had “categorically ruled out” the possibility of serving as Donald Trump’s vice president.
“I know Nikki Haley will not rule out being vice president because she spends a lot of money attacking me. So, is she trying to defeat former President Trump, or is she trying to be his vice president?
I’ve categorically ruled out being VP.
The remarks swiftly ignited a firestorm of commentary on social media, with users lambasting DeSantis.

Not on his best day has ever been as smart as even his most ardent supporters think he is.
If it weren’t for the hand he was dealt by the voters with a legislature and municipal government structure that supports the laws coming out of Tallahassee, this guy wouldn’t be a blip on the radar screen.
Come to think of it, he wouldn’t even be close to where he is today without Pres Trump....so there’s that.
The clown car called the DeSantis campaign needs to stop freezing in Iowa and NH and go home to sunny FL.
Desantis is the republican Beto.
Trump isn’t considering him as VP or even as ambassador to Transnistria.
That’s hilarious!
As if
I like both Trump and Desantis but there would be absolutely no upside for Ron to be Trump’s running mate.
Delusional. But entertaining.
Who would make a good VP? I am starting to look at Paxton.
If Neo-Con Nikki thinks she has a chance to be Trump’s Vice President, she’s been inhaling too much angel dust.
“The electors shall meet...and vote by ballot for President and Vice President, one of whom at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state as themselves”
Amendment XII
and no one ever will. 😋
Meatball still the pretender
He sure turned out to be a goofball
Tucker Carlson should be the one to tell him that nobody asked him... ;-)
There indeed would be upside for Ron, but none whatsoever for Trump. If I am not mistaken, Ron’s political career may be over. Where does he go from Governor? Back to being a US Representative? That’s a fall backwards.
I’m close enough to Iowa that I see some caucus ads on TV sometimes. I just saw an anti-DeSantis ad from some generic political group and wondered who is behind this. Trump supporters? Haley supporters? I assume the latter. Haley and the GOPe want to get to a 2-person matchup to have any chance of derailing Trump. I don’t think Trump sees DeSantis as a threat, more of an annoyance and wouldn’t waste his time and resources derailing a campaign that seems to be imploding on its own.
Paxton is one of those excellent choices we have to chose from. Kristi Noem is another. DeSantis looked promising, but his impatience coupled with his sudden expanded ego made him launch before he was ready. In many ways I am glad he exposed himself before we knew what his real abilities were. From where I sit, they are somewhere between none & few, with none holding the clear lead, but there are a few. I just can't think of any at the moment. 😋
