... And so do we.

Germany, France won't pledge funds at Iraqi conference
Iraqi leader warns of possible backlash

MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- The level of Germany and France's participation in an international conference aimed at raising more funds to rebuild Iraq prompted reaction Thursday from a top Iraqi official, who warned of a possible backlash.

Ayad Allawi, the current head of Iraq's U.S.-appointed governing council, said he hoped German and French officials would reconsider their decision not to boost their contributions beyond funds already pledged through the European Union.

"As far as Germany and France are concerned, really, this was a regrettable position they had," Allawi said. "I don't think the Iraqis are going to forget easily that in the hour of need, those countries wanted to neglect Iraq."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush says fires raging in southern California are a disaster, a declaration that frees up federal funds to help those whose homes have been damaged or destroyed in the blazes.

At least 13 people have been killed in the fires and some 850 homes have been destroyed. Tens of thousands of people have fled their homes.

San Diego and San Bernardino counties, both in the southern part of the state, have been the hardest hit.

Federal funds will be made available to people in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties, the White House said in a statement on Monday.

Here's part one of a history of the Iowa Caucus Process.

Good morning, all.

MATT Lauer's ex-wife is standing by her ex-man. Nancy Alspaugh, who was married to the "Today" host from 1982 to '89, was overheard at a Hollywood event this weekend complaining about the front-page story in the National Enquirer: "Matt Lauer's Cocaine Dealer Tells All! His Secret Drug Past Exposed." Alspaugh ... wondered: "Who didn't do cocaine in the '80s? - certainly no one I knew." (PageSix)

I guess that means the story about Matt is true.

CBS tries to cover its collective rear - of the Reagan film, big shot Les Moonves says: "Well, No. 1, nobody's seen the film. So any criticism . . . or a film that isn't finished, is rather odd we think . . . We've looked at the rough cut, there are things we like . . . there are things we don't like . . . there are things we think go too far. So there are some edits being made trying to present a more fair picture of the Reagans."

Even Dem-loving columnist Liz Smith wonders, "Did CBS really have to make this tacky movie at this time?"

"Who didn't do cocaine in the '80s? - certainly no one I knew."

I must of been hangin' with the wrong peeps, nobody I knew did cocaine and if they did I didn't know about it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So glad Blair came out with his statement. I did see a short report on the whole thing last night on MSNBC. Loved the way Keith Oberman just glossed right over the fact that clintoon had stabbed Blair in the back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bob Novack's teeth are looking better (saw him on MTP). Either that or when I saw him weekend before last the studio lighting was making them look terrible. They now look much better than the old set.

The Iraqis aren't the only ones that are going to give the French and Germans a backlash. I'm in the market for a new scope for my deer rifle, and I'm no longer interested in a German made Leupold!

I don't know anyone who did cocaine in the 1980s - or any time, for that matter. Silly me, should have hung out at Studio 54 instead of going to work and church.

Why is Keith Olbermann on MSNBC? He was a dud on ESPN. Not only did Clintoon stab Blair in the back, but No. 10 Downing St. made it clear that x42 is a freakin' liar.

M:

Can you believe this is the 1 year anniversary of our trips to France?!

Glenn and I are going to New Orleans (the poor-man's France) today for two nights. We're going to find a little French restaurant and insist they speak Francais to us. (No telling WHAT we might order!) But we're going to indulge in wines, kir royales and yummy food for a couple of days....and then return to earth.

Prayers and best of luck to daisyscarlett. These fires are really a nightmare come true. It looks like a horror movie.

I didn't even know who Keith Olberman (as evidenced by my misspelling of his name) was until he showed up on msnbc this year.

I did learn that he was a darling at msnbc until the clintoon scandals. He quit in a huff because he didn't think the president having sex with an intern and then lying about it to a federal judge in a sexual harasment suit was news.

Last night I was perusing my France maps and WWI notes, planning next year's trip to Champagne and Lorrain. But this is the last time to France, I swear, until they shape up!

While we were in France last year, the D.C. snipers were on their rampage, and I recall how strange it seemed to watch the news from our London or Paris hotel room and see foreign reporters on the scene in Virginia discussing events in my country! I was discombobulated.

Have fun in N.O. and tell Glenn hello from us.

That looks like the typical Iowa Buck. Appears to be 5 pts. Road Rats! That's what they are. Auto Insurance companies are threatening to quit paying for deer/auto collisians.

Millions of dollars are spent here every year to repair damage inflicted in these unfortunate meetings.

2 yrs ago, I had the misfortune to come up over a hill and hit a HERD of Road Rats. I killed 4 of them. 3 were killed outright and the 4th drug itself off the road and into a field to die. I don't know for sure how many deer were actually standing in the road and along the shoulder. I counted 6 before they started hitting me. And there were more, it just happened so quickly, it was impossible to count them all.

I'm not convinced Tahoes truely are 'built like a rock'. Both front quarter panels needed replacing, as well as the hood and the grill.

I'm almost scared to drive around dusk - those darn deer are everywhere, and I'm really not interested in finding out how really tough my Escape may be!

Iowa Company - Electric deer whistles

When my father was driving up to Iowa, he would regale us with all the near brushes with "road rats" along the way from northern OK, MO, and continuing on to northern IA.

My brother and I installed some of the "speed-activated" whistles - so far, so good.

I just picked up some branches from the magnolia tree where the buck are polishing their horns for the coming rut. They are really out of control here in town.
