I guess I failed to mention I had a set of Deer Whistles on the front end.

I know plenty of people who have whistles, who have hit deer. If your dad didn't hit any deer using the whistles, I guess it was just his lucky day. I have no faith in them, myself.

"Collisions with deer, represent more than four percent of all crashes in the United States and killed 111 people in 1995 according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS). The deer population has jumped from approximately 10 million in the 1980's to more than 20 million in 1995."

I'll bet the numbers have at least doubled in the ensuing eight years.

Be careful out there.

(Bathtub refinisherdudes have now invaded the home...God, please let it all end very soon.)

Folks, please refer to the thread titled "Prayer Request from Florida FReeper Mustang". He and his wife need our support.

Navy Lt. Commander (R) Mustang is a Viet Nam vet and long-time freeper. He and Pat enthusiastically participated in many freeps here in Florida and elsewhere. Thanks,

Leni

Thanks for all your kind thoughts.

Things are better today. The winds have died down and the temperatures are markedly lower. No rain in sight (hasn't rained here since July 1)

Our beleagured firefighters finally have some help from all over California and Nevada and Arizona-lots of fire engines and equipment and firefighters.

There is still one major fire threatening homes and lives.

A concern now is air quality. The skies are dark, the air is smokey and we are told to stay indoors with the windows closed and no air on...Gotta conserve electricity and water usage. Most schools and colleges are closed as are many businesses and we are told to stay off the roads (some are closed anyway).

My family and house remain fine. Eyes are burning, throat is scratchy but that is normal we are assured. The local media is doing an excellent job of keeping us informed. In fact, some expert just advised that we take a damp cloth and dust so that is what I am off to do. Will make sure I make a swipe of my pearls and egg dishes too, lol.

Won't be posting much today-my heart isn't in it. But I have been lurking off and on and enjoying all the updates and humor.

HLL-really enjoyed your night with the 9 dwarves. Your characterizations were right on but you left out Dennis K. His ears look so disproportionately large to me...how do they look up close....

Could you give us some linkage?

I read every post and couldn't, or didn't, find the thread.

Thank you.

One of my cousins fights the fires in Corona del Mar.

God bless and keep them all.

You and everyone out there near the fire, are in my prayers.

My little sister emailed me and said many of her employees can not come into to work because they are being evacuated. She supervises the courts and jails. Stay safe.

Mr. Teacup and I went to New Jeresy to attend the funeral of an 18 year old who was killed.

On our way home we got to listen to our old radio station WABC,and the Curtis and Kuby show. I forgot how funny those guys can be. Boy are they dinging on Lisa minelli and her Ex. I guess Lisa gets crazy when she's drunk. According to Curtis and Kuby, her ex-hubby is suing Lisa because she hit him in the head and he has a continus head ache.

I'm having a difficult time believing David Gest's allegations about Liza. They both have their eccentricities, but I think he's nuttier.

I think he wants to be supported for the rest of his life.

What about all the gifts she got last year? She was registered at Tiffinay's and other high end stores. I guess she divided all of those with David huh?

Could I ask you a question Iowa Granny? Do you tend to drive a little too fast?

Hey, lay off our IG! Driving slowly doesn't help when those accursed deer decide to cross the road right in front of you. I was going the speed limit the last time I hit one. Thankfully, I slammed on the brakes and just barely grazed his little deer hiney and he scurried off uninjured, but left his little deer fur on my bumper.

Mister, I hunt at a ranch of highway 41 in South Texas where there are way more deer than people. When I'm driving home from a hunting trip I travel at 45mph, so that I can actually stop BEFORE I hit one of those deer! There's no excuse for a large percentage of those road kills. Don't blame the deer. This is a case of people being careless, and in some cases being assholes! It's just such a waste!!

Where I live, one can drive well under 45 mph and still have deer jump out in front of one's car (although it hasn't happened to me since I got the deer "whistles"). They have absolutely no fear, and there's an overpopulation of deer here, so hitting one is hardly a waste. I'm not a "mister," by the way.

My apologies mam. Well, I guess some deer just need to be taken out of the gene pool.

Lemme stop this before it starts:

First, mountaineer's a lady.

Second, IG's no a-hole, but I'm guessing with all her travels, she can cover some miles...

Bad news on the scope front:

There are new scope companies showing up daily that have their scopes made in China. Why is Leatherwood®/Hi-Lux™ different?

The people involved in the company have about two centuries of combined knowledge in the riflescope industry.
Leatherwood has new designs that are truly new. The Camputer, the Uni-Dial, the 3-D Mount, the EXTRM Mount and the new M-98 Mount represent designs that are totally unique to Leatherwood company.
Manufacturing of the Camputer Scope in China has taught Leatherwood how to deal with quality issues in the building of a sophisticated optical products in China. The Camputer is the most difficult scope in the world to build even though it appears extremely simple. Leatherwood is now able to finally institute the controls necessary to produce this scope at a very competitive price and get the quality we needed. The new Sporter II shows the results of that work.
Leatherwood has now taken that knowledge and applied it to a complete line of optics. Building on basic designs that were already in production, Leatherwood significantly upgraded the quality of the optical glass and changed assembly procedures to insure that the scopes don’t just look good but perform well. To prove the quality, every scope is shock tested and leak tested. This has produced a line that is price competitive with other China produced lines but has the performance of much more expensive scopes.
Leatherwood believe that they represent the new direction in the production of riflescopes and intend to lead the way in this new millennium in both new designs and quality products at very reasonable prices.

Is there anything made in our country besides hamburgers and deer?

Cheers guys.
