I started working in Ecuador for a shot time in '95, then was in Peru for 2 1/2 years, then Africa for almost 2-years, now here for 3-years in December. Yikes! Never would have thunk it.

The winters can be pretty tough...the thing that gets to everyone is they are so darn long! Pretty serious winter can start in mid-October and last until mid-March, although my wife swears it's from mid-Sept. to mid-May. LOL!
I have found that if I'm busy, like really busy, it doesn't bother as much. So the ranch should make winters fly when we get there.

At 5'9" I should think so! Those extra inches in height really make a difference. Every extra pound on a petite frame is very noticeable. I always liked being short, but that's the one part I hate about it.

RenderMan® Pro Server 11.5
(PhotoRealistic RenderMan®, Irma, & Alfserver) $ 3,500
For what that sofware can do, this doesn't seem unreasonable.
Thanks for the linkage, Valerie.

Part of our Black Angus girls...almost complete A.I herd. We sold them to a friend who is keeping the blood-line going so we can buy some heifers when we return.
In our last calf crop, the steers, born in late Feb and early March, averaged 710 lbs and the heifers averaged 620 lbs. They were the largest calves in the county.

What a pretty porch...in Africa I spent a lot of time on the Indian ocean and the tradition was to invite friends over in the evening for a "sundowner" which always involved lots of wine, cheese and gin-supplemented beverages.
Your photo brings back fond memories of African sundowners.

I think someone should give you the entire history of this forum. It is quite unique.
Some of the oldtimers should do it, methinks.

What a beautiful herd.
Artificial is the way to go if one is trying for the finest possible traits.
I now need a tenderloin for dinner.
Check out this family rancher's operation
Might give you some ideas to dream of.

"although my wife swears it's from mid-Sept. to mid-May" Well, that is about right for Colorado, and I am severely afflicted with SAD (Seaonal Affective Disorder) in more northern latitudes, so winters are a true misery for me much furthur north than where I am right now. I used to start dropping into a funk in mid-September and wouldn't start coming out of it till late April or early May, and even then there was likely to still be at least one more snow, even though the light issue was better. Sometimes in the winter it would get so bad I could barely function. Even in Kentucky I have symptoms. Here, I do real well...no detectable physical or psychological change at all with the seasons, so in that respect, I am quite content. Needless to say, winters were a source of dread for me when I still lived out there.
I spent a month in northern Idaho several years ago during March and April, and it was much nicer there than it was that same year in Colorado during that time, but I don't if that's typical.

"I've never seen Mo infect anyone as quickly as she got you" She's just getting better with practice.

How about this: she infected me with that typo virus before I made my first post on this thread. That is how fast whe works!
To: Cuttnhorse
heheh - agree.
As soon as I get a no-defrost freezer, I'm going to try their six and eight oz. tenderloins.
I heard about them on the DerryBrownfield.com internet radio show which airs weekdays from 10 - 11am cst...I think that you would enjoy this Missouri rancher's take on our country today.
