Like I said I know. I could offer up a list of excuses and other expenses though :OP

I already have the knowledge of how to use them from the military but very little knowlegde of civilian weapons. What do you think of the link that da_toolman provided for me?

Realisticly, I don't expect swarms of Jihadis in our neighborhoods -- that would be brought to a stop right quick.

All kidding aside, I got pretty freaked a few weeks ago when I drove into my neighbourhood and saw about eight guys in swat-black, stacked up at a front door like they were about to make a "dynamic" entry. Every damn one of the was *swarthy.* I didn't notice weapons, but do you really need them to "practice?"

At one time I travelled extensively all over SW Kansas, S Alabama and Tidewater Virginia. I always carried a survival kit.

Now I seldom get more than 30 miles away from home.

I live in a large brick house in the Florida panhandle. It is well supplied with normal food in the fridge and freezer. Have a generator to power the pump only. In a pinch we could use it for everything but would use up the gas supply too soon.

The house would make a pretty good fortress but no real thought of that ever being a reality.

I have a carrier above the head of the pickup for a short barreled shotgun. It is in plain view but no one ever notices it up there. I also keep an old CZ 52 with two spare mags. It penetrates well which would be likely in a vehicle to vehicle confrontation. Also cheap enough that I wouldn't cry if it were stolen.

If you are going to give advice like this please give details so we Glock owners can cut your argument to pieces.

Well, CCW is illegal in my state, but it's hunting season, so we don't get hassled about a 12 gauge behind the seat to badly. Depending where you are, of course.
2 3/4" Hi brass #4 buck and 3" Federal sabot slugs for me.
When I can get away with the .45 Norinco clone, it's fed with Remington Golden Sabers.

1911 style auto and a pump shotgun... Just the basics.

That won't fly with me, I own 9x18 Makarov, that you can buy anywhere for $150. 8000 rounds not one anything and still going. If you don't know about these, you should.

I have been out with the wife since Church this morning mostly shopping but we took the 145 pound Newfoundland pup to PetsMart to get her pic taken with Santa (and yup we're nuts) and as I sit here, I'm still wearing my ParaOrdnance P10 .45 because it is so freaking comfortable and easy to conceal in my Galco strong side hip holster. I just forget its there. But it is a fast smooth draw. I of course always ALWAYS carry a second mag. If you need one, you'll likely need #2, hi-cap or not. I am usually carrying some form of a .45 ParaOrdnance, or Colt 1911. Sometimes, I'll carry my Gock M27 (rarely now, since I have had mag troubles). When I carry a 9mm it's a Beretta M92 (with 2 Hi-Cap mags) which still conceals well for me beneath a Banana Republic Photographer's Vest. But primarily it's my P10. I am saving for a ParaOrdnance C6 "ParaCarry" and eventually I'll want a ParaOrdnance TAC-4 for trips.

All my mags for carry pistols are stoked with prefrangible MagSafe ammo. This is for two reasons: If I have to fire in a crowded venue (say a mall) I don't want a TNT (Thru-N-Thru) gunshot wound of my target and possibly hitting an innocent bystander on the other side of the raghea...I mean BADGUY. The second reason for the prefrangible ammo is that if, God forbid, I miss a round, any solid object like a wall will cause the bullet to turn to dust and not bounce anywhere.

The MagSafe is a number one rated round for a "one shot stop" according to the Fackler tests and I have heard many glowing testimonials concerning it's use.

I live in Miami, Florida and pretty much stay in the deep south when I travel, even in the winter, so it's not like a heavy jacket is going to cause it to break up too soon. I never travel someplace where my Florida permit isn't any good on a reciprocity law.

I couldn't speak to a terror attack in Chicago or someplace REALLY cold. In such a case, I'd probably be carrying Federal Hydra-Shok or Golden Saber. Maybe the new Cor-Bon load they call Powr-Ball.

You already have great advice if you already carry. I don't change anything because I am always on orange alert when I carry (always) because of the responsibility.

If buying a new weapon don't listen to people who completely rule out a popular weapon, especially when they are adamant about it. If they cite a very small number of incidents, then I could do the same and call for a complete ban of the M1 Garand.

If you have friends that you can shoot with that is the best. Sample their weapons and heed their advice.

People who buy a weapon and shove it into purse or pocket without mental and physical preparation are asking for trouble and are not doing themselves a favor.

If there were any suggestion af a semblance of shtf, I'd pack a couple of smyrna's finest combat tupperware. Hands down, you pull the trigger, it shoots. Everytime.

I too suggest a .22 short,long,long rifle & or mag.These are light weight enough to carry a lot of they are cheap to buy, and are not watched by the feds a lot. Also you can get them just about anywhere. I have enough to sink a bass boat! The CIA used the .22 as a round to kill people with too. The round has been around in time since the early 1800's, so these are time tested too! You can also make a homemade firearm by using this round as well.

But if I had them, they would be loaded with Hydrashocks.

...it was a 3" mag. with a long barrel, and I took my time and aimed it like a rifle. It dropped like a rock. Extra Extra Full. We were shocked.

I still don't use anything smaller than 12ga. though. The preserve owner handed me his old Ithaca 37, stamped State Police, since the exec. types I was shooting with thought my 20", rifle-sighted, mag. extended 870 Police looked too military. I smirked when I saw the Poly-Choke...and determined to perform some redeeming stunt. The big bird was shot at repeatedly by the "experts," I said "I've got him," cranked the choke, licked my thumb and touched the front bead like Jed Clampett...the bird slowed at the trees at the end of the cornfield, KNOWING he was out of range...spread his wings, boom...dropped like a rock. I blew the smoke off the muzzle, as we gloating wise-asses did back then...and the preserve owner said..."very impressive." I was hated from that day forward.

My personal experience flys with me just fine, but thanks.

One advantage my Glock .40s give me is that my wife and numerous close friends carry them. If SHTF we can share magazines and ammo. Further, if one of us goes down we all know each others weapon. Your 9x18 Makarov does not allow for these advantages. What works for you may not work for me and the reciprocal is probably true.

I bet that we own different vehicles too. We are different people with different needs and preferences.
