I played in a league (semi-pro in NYC) for a couple of years in the seventies. One time we were receiving a second half kick-off. The ball went straight up, came down and settled on the kicking team's 45. They stood around/over it hoping for a few more inches, but nobody downed it. Since they were so focused on the ball I was able to slip through, scoop it up and run, untouched for the score. The argument over who f***ed up was priceless.
