"And what kind of human arrogance makes you think that we could even begin to grasp a FTL technology if it did exist?"
What arrogance? The same arrogance that said traveling beyond the sound barrier was biologically impossible? Or that horseless carriages were either impossible or would alter your physical health at speed?
C'mon, give us a break. The technology is not yet there, but the concept of FTL is being worked out. Look up a fella named Alcubierre, and you'll find a whole different set of possibilities for FTL theory.
This goes back to my whole feeling on ET's - physics is physics, and behavior of ALL systems, including biology, relies upon it. The motivations of an ET will not be all that far removed from our own, other than he/she/it may not see that we have anything they need beyond raw materials. Their physics and technology may be more advanced, but not necessarily incomprehensible.

I was very relieved to see Don Knotts face amongst the welcoming commitee. Don Knotts=good idea, Don Rickles=armagedon.

Good grief, if I saw this crowd coming at me I'd call in space artillery from the mother ship down on my own position.

And they communicate via the Home Shopping Network.
They can't be human beings.

"Manbeef is an essential part of a nutritious low-carb diet."
Actually the accepted descriptive phrase used by Polynesians who consumed human flesh was "long pig". Omnivores such as us and swine apparently taste similar. Maybe we could get this confirmed by that German cannibal who was recently acquitted of murder after dining on his fellow man.

I suppose that would be correct if we believed they would/will act like humans....which they probably will not be.

Within the scientific community, the question is no longer whether extraterrestrial life exists, but if ET is smart enough to do long division. If we succeed in locating any ET life, one of two conditions is highly likely to be true:
a) such life will be no more intelligent or technologically advanced than a field mouse; or
b) compared to such life, we will be no more intelligent or technologically advanced than a field mouse.
And it may well be that I'm actually being quite generous in my estimation of the degree to which we might be able to interrelate.

Actually it is alleged that the aliens prefer to abduct small, slight skinny humans, and fair and blond ones, and usually women 90% of the time...
More on Mars (see also my tagline}:
There was ancient primitive life there;
of that I have no doubt.
But those ancient primitive life forms,
Would be hardly the life-forms I'D worry about!
