Actually, they were left out of the OT by the Jews--some of the Diaspora texts (Sirach, etc.) are considered sacred by the Catholic church, but are rejected by the Jewish community (too much that prefigures Christ). Protestants don't like them very much, either.

Interesting. I need to learn more about this. I think I have some of these in my Stuttgart Vulgate (trying to learn Latin also).
I'll find other things to blame on the Catholics. My wife is Catholic, so I'll blame her to. :)

And some Jewish sects revere only the Pentetuch as I understand it.
