You Might be a Talk Radio Fan . . .
Bobby Chang

I never thought I would say I would be hooked to country music, but unfortunately, in the afternoons, I'm not supposed to be doing such, but I find it tempting to want to hear the chorus of the controversial Gretchen Peters-written and Radio Disney-modified "Independence Day":

Let freedom ring Let the white dove sing Let the whole world know today Is a Day of Reckoning

Let the weak be strong Let the Left be wrong Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay It's Independence Day . . .

(switches to a choral music setting, more of which I am familiar and would love to sing)

From coast to coast . . . "Quod per sortem" From border to border . . . "sternit fortem" From sea to shining sea . . . "mecum omnes plangite" (I won't give away the last line)

Am I hooked too much on news/talk radio that I know the theme song to too many good shows on talk radio? When you live in a market with no talk radio, and yearn for it, what would you expect?

You might be a talk radio fan if . . .

You sing the line in Gretchen Peters' song "Independence Day" as "Let the Left be Wrong."

You expect to her consumer advice on the cue of "She Drives Me Crazy".

You expect counseling on the cue of "New Attitude".

You look for the best topics and the issue to be seen on the count of "My City Was Gone".

You join the community choir for O Fortuna.

You start using funny language you never hear anywhere else.

You believe John Kerry is pro-Saddam and pro-Usama.

You irritate legislators by quoting your favourite hosts.

You identify certain tunes with talk shows and await the shows on those tunes.

You sing "Dixie" when a new Southern Affiliate appears.

You start posts or speeches by saying, "Warning: This (show, post, or speech) contains adult language, adult content, psychological nudity. (Viewer, listener, or reader) discretion is advised."

You are at a shopping centre when the bumper music which starts playing is a familiar theme song or bumper piece to talk radio. You want to hear the host come immediately.

You greet people with "It is I!"

Jeff Foxworthy makes fun of Rednecks. I decided to write "You might be a talk radio fan if . . . " after our market lost all talk radio, I started thinking what a talk radio fan would do.

How bad have you got it?
