A Priest Lake man killed his neighbor's 2-pound miniature Yorkshire terrier by kicking it into the air like a football, police said, and authorities have charged him with animal cruelty.

Jelani Lewis and Jessica McKenzie say they are outraged at the death of their 17-year-old pet, Gizmo. Lewis said he watched helplessly early yesterday as three men assaulted the dog the way football players kick field goals.

ALAN POIZNER" Jessica McKenzie, left, with her boyfriend, Jelani Lewis, indicates the blood from their dog, Gizmo, which Lewis said was killed by three men who held it down and kicked it like a football. The spot is where Gizmo landed, more than 30 feet from where the 2-pound terrier was kicked. "

After Gizmo's death, Lewis said, he chased the three men until he caught Crawford, and made him pick up Gizmo's body and take it upstairs to McKenzie. He later held Crawford until police showed up

I would have done a little bit more than that if it was my dog.

I'd bet most who would abuse animals like that don't limit themselves to animals. I remember the FBI did a study on serial killers and found quite a few of them abused animals at some point.

Poor little Gizmo. He made it to 17 years and had to die a horrible death at the hands of this bastard. Hope he gets a long time in jail.

Crawford looks like the type of guy who has an appointment with a Priest, Warden, Witnesses, and a needle later in life.

I think I would kill the man myself if he did this to my dog. I lost my yorkie (Oscar) two years ago to a coyote and still have not gotten over it completely.

Sicko.

My Sheppard and Lab can both be pains in he a**, but I know that 99.99% of all dogs are immeasurably loyal to their owners and families and would lay down their lives for them.

We could learn alot from a dog.

I disagree, the article itself makes no mention of ethnicity. The photos are simply of the participants, including the poor dog.

I think this is simply a heart-breaking incident for the dog owners and for dog lovers, regardless of their ethnicity.

The scumbags.

And nevermind, further, that this was an old dog. He didn't stand a chance.

I'm sure the man Lewis was extra upset thinking this was his Gramma's dog he was trying to take care of.

This is so sad to think any1 could be so horrid. I have to alternate here, throwing fists and crying. :-\

I agree; besides, this is a LOCAL PAPER from Tennessee, not CNN, and not even the LA Times.

I agree. I don't see this as a race "thing". I would like to have a few minutes with this loser. He wouldn't ever kick anything again!!!

That was a horrible way for little Gizmo to die.

Some people just have no respect pets. Simply cruel what he did to that dog.

Some people are such lowlifes, sometimes I think they don't deserve life themselves. This is different from saying that as punishment for murder, say, person A must pay with his life for killing person B. In other words, some people are so lacking in redeeming qualities, you have to wonder what the point is in allowing them to continue living; it has nothing to do with punishment, per se. Crawford may be one of those people, but I'm perfectly content to let God sort it out.

That cocky punk looks like he needs a baseball bat right in the teeth, and hopefully one of the neighbors will get the same idea.

I know. It was a horrible thing this man did, but the urge to crack a morbid joke was too much for me to resist.

You cannot tell me that that animal does not deserve to die, slowly.
