IF you're looking for an animated alternative to Mel Gibson's gruesome gorefest "The Passion of the Christ" when the DVD comes out on Aug. 31, the folks behind "South Park" have just the thing.

Comedy Central is releasing a special three-episode "South Park" DVD with a religious theme to coincide with Gibson's flick hitting stores. The DVD includes this season's already classic "The Passion of the Jew" as well as old favorites "Red Hot Catholic Love" and "Christian Hard Rock."

"I saw the last half hour from a bootleg DVD in South Central," he tells PAGE SIX's Ian Spiegelman.

Is this from the same industry that is trying to ban bootleg copies from us?

Trey & Matt don't seem to be fighting the anti-bootleg fight. They've allowed copies of South Park to be circulated around the internet since the show's premiere.

In addition, back when the South Park movie came out, the pair made an appearance on the Conan O'Brien show. In that appearance, they wanted to show a certain scene from the film as a clip. (Those who've seen the film can probably guess which one.) But Paramount refused to send them that particular segment. So they got around Paramount by walking outside and buying a bootleg of their own film from a NYC street vendor and bringing it back to the studio to air. So, they're not being hypocritical on the bootleg issue. They really don't care.

(And I'll probably buy both the South Park disc and the Passion on that particular Tuesday.)

The "minds" at Monty Python and/or the studio have also chosen to exhibit bad taste and reissue The Life Of Brian as a response to a successful film about Jesus Christ:

Denunciation being used to MARKET this film's re-release here

Also this is the ad campaign being used by the Landmark Theaters chain to promote this film:

In response to the furor over
Mel Gibson's The Passion Of The Christ
Monty Python unleashes the theatrical re-release
(or second coming) of Life Of Brian
the troupe's quasi-Biblical saga of an inept,
reluctant messiah (Graham Chapman) who
happened to be born on the same night as Jesus.
Director Terry Jones, along with regulars
Michael Palin, John Cleese and Eric Idle,
take multiple roles in an irreverant religious
satire that raised the ire of church groups
from coast to coast when originally released.

THE PASSION OF THE BRIAN: LIFE OF BRIAN TO BE RE-RELEASED IN THEATERS NEXT MONTH

“A lot of people in America have said that they couldn't figure out a way to deal with the public reaction to Mel's movie,” John Goldstone told Daily Variety yesterday. “This is a kind of antidote to Mel.”

Hollywood is antiChrist. This marketing push proves it.
