Jessica Simpson Beats Spears To Daisy Duke Role

Britney Spears's hopes of landing the role of Daisy Duke in the forthcoming movie version of the 'Dukes of Hazzard' have been dashed-after bosses handed it to Jessica Simpson.

While star Spears had expressed interest in playing the sexy character from the '70s TV show, singer Simpson has been chosen as the blonde who will fill the extra short shorts of original Daisy Duke Catherine Bach.

Simpson's manager father Joe, 'She is really excited.' Simpson herself adds, 'I wanna wear those shorts so bad.'

The film about three redneck cousins, two corrupt public officials and a souped up Dodger Charger car, begins production this summer.

I've seen pics of Jessica as a brunette before, she's okay.

I bet a blonde bimbo would probably use an apostrophe to denote a plural, right?

I agree ... Daisy's character was smart and practical and courageous, as well as voluptuous and scantily-dressed. She had more sense than the men! I'm not very familiar with Jessica Simpson (isn't that a cartoon character?), but maybe she can act.

Lucille Ball made millions and millions playing a dumb redhead. The Hollywood crowd was shocked when she took over Desilu productions and was a tough, smart business manager.

The lead character in I Love Lucy was wacky and goofy, but she wasn't stupid. Besides, I don't think Jessica Simpson is acting when she's playing dumb in her reality show.

lol, I believe that is Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle as Roscoe, William Hung as Enos (perfect, IMO) and J.R. 'Boomer Sooner' Ross from WWE Raw as Boss Hawg.

I'm so embarassed I know these things.

I suppose you believe that Eminem is a street thug.
I have no idea how smart Jessica Simpson is I have only seen her on SNL once and some photographs.

I see nothing wrong with using a personna as an asset.
Segal, Arnold, Willis and that crowd's macho image
works well.

The Hollywood crowd was shocked when she took over Desilu productions and was a tough, smart business manager.

Nonsense. Ball had been around for 20 years before I Love Lucy (she was, after all, "queen of the B movies") and she was well known for being hard headed, a good business woman, a good draw, and practical. It was her presence on the show that got it's initial backing (along with the fact that she and Desi performed on stage in a traveling show for a year together to sell the concept, basically testing out the way the show would be run, pacing, gags, etc.)

The one who really shocked people was Desi Arnaz. He had a reputation of being a boozing playboy (partly deserved, and which eventually lead to the divorce...)but he was the real brains at DesiLu. Among other things, he insisted on shooting in front a live audiance, using film rather than the poor quality distribution techniques of early television, and personally selecting most of the major characters. He was also responsible for the followon Lucy Desi Comedy Hour and variety shows that came after I Love Lucy.

Growing up, my sister was an "I Love Lucy" and Lucille Ball fanatic - I learned far more about the subject area than I really care to admit...

Sorrell Booke, long-time character actor, as Boss Hogg. He died not too long after the show ended, IIRC.

I don’t think either of them can stack up to Catherine Bach. Remember when the network censors forced her to cover up her outstanding legs - with beauty enhancing pantyhose?

I guess that minister Dad of Jessica's doesn't care how she dresses! He's her manager and is getting another daughter involved in show business too. Guess it's "Praise the Lord and show me the money"!!
