The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Posted on 07/13/2004 9:49:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My excuse is that it's much cheaper to rent a move for three bucks - and where everyone can watch on the same "ticket" - than to pay six bucks or more at the theater, per person.

Yeah, when we realized it was gonna rain out the fireworks (or at least our willingness to sit out and wait for them) on the 4th, we thought of a movie. Came down to the only one the five of us could see together was "Garfield."

We stayed home.

We'll see Spiderman in the theater. But I've come to that time when Jr. no longer wants to go to movies with me. He wants to go with his friends.

You did go see Prisoner of Azkaban, right? I sympathize with the expense thing. Even renting is expensive. Plus somehow I always manage to pay the whole family's late fees. But I have movies budgeted in, too.

Ok, how do 30-ish episodes (not the whole series, but apparently all that's been fansubbed so far) of anime, shipped your way early next week, sound to you? Think you've got a couple sibs who'd care to join you?

FMA is becoming tied for second-favorite anime with Fruits Basket, though it could move up to a tie for first with Rurouni Kenshin, should the whole series be as good as the first three episodes.

Okay, I'm about to try to figure out this codec thing. Do you happen to know which codec I need to download?

Man... that's a shame. He'll regret it someday, I bet.

I got to see a movie with my dad this week, and he's more fun than any of the friends I see movies with. Besides, he at least doesn't need me to explain the story to him... I have some friends who - well, let's not go there.

Yeah, we did go see that. That was my treat for the next little bit, I think. And actually, one reason we went is because some of us had free tickets - Dad was given a few as part of an award at work or something, for being there x number of years. Most movies, though...I just wait to see on video. LOTR was a notable exception...

Nah, it's okay. I understand him wanting to go with his friends.

It just means it takes me longer to see somethings like when they're out of town or when Mrs. and I can get a sitter. But in that case we have to KNOW it's a movie we want to see.

I see that one comes with QuickTime. What program do you use to watch yours in? I was trying Windows Media Player.

Actually, the story starts when the photographer, Phil Sheldon, attends a press conference called by scientist Phineas T. Horton to introduce his latest invention, a synthetic man. Only problem Horton hasn't worked out is that his synthetic man spontaneously bursts into flame on contact with the air...
