NASHVILLE - An album of music prompted by The Passion of the Christ will go on sale Aug. 31.
The songs did not appear in the biblical movie, but were inspired by Mel Gibson's bloody film.
Called The Passion of the Christ – Songs, the disc includes original songs from the likes of Lauren Hill, Matchbox Twenty front man Rob Thomas and Christian rock outfits like Third Day and P.O.D.
The first single to be released from the album is Relearn Love by Scott Stapp, the former lead singer for Creed, the group that made the 1999 anthem Arms Wide Open a radio mainstay.
Nashville stars Brad Paisley and Sara Evans also joined together to write, produce and record New Again. They are the only country performers on the collection.
Gibson's movie was attacked by critics for its overly violent depiction of Christ's final hours. Despite the criticism, it is this year's biggest-grossing movie, selling more than $370-million US worth of tickets.
There are two great songs out by these artists. Brad Paisley has a duet with bluegrass star Allison Krauss ("Whiskey Lullaby") and Sara Evans has a smash hit ("Suds In The Bucket") that sounds like an old-fashioned country song.
I'm looking forward to their work on this upcoming album.

Do you know when the DVD of "The Passion Of The Christ" is going to be on sale to the public here in the U.S.? Do you know whether they will keep the original Aramaic or will they dub it with English for American consumers?

I think it comes out at the same time as the CD, August 31. I doubt Gibson will change anything about the movie, so you better put on your reading glasses.

The album sounds like it could be a good one, but I do know there's at least one other CD with various artists that recorded songs in tribute to The Passion of the Christ.
