Trooper shoots pigs on fire

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use.

After coming upon spastic, squealing pigs on fire, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper drew his gun early Tuesday and put them out of their misery, a Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The trooper shot about eight pigs that were on fire or severely burned after the truck they were traveling in burst into flames for unknown reasons, Trooper Loy Hixson said.

"Since they sustained substantial injuries, we put them down for humane reasons," Hixson said.

A truck filled with about 180 pigs headed south on Interstate 15 from St. George, Utah, to a slaughterhouse in Los Angeles burst into flames for unknown reasons about 4:45 a.m. near the Apex area north of Las Vegas.

The driver pulled the truck over, and jumped out to investigate the cause of smoke coming from the rear of his vehicle.

He ran back to the cab of the truck to get a fire extinguisher, but the front part of the trailer was engulfed in flames by the time he returned, Hixson said.

A total of about 50 pigs died as a result of the fire, and the truck was destroyed, Hixson said.

The trooper has been charged with porkicide.

" . . . burst into flames for unknown reasons, . . "

Probably was not a ventilated trailer. Thunderdome, anyone?

Sounds humane to me. Trooper did good.

Of course, the heads will have to be condemned, but if he hurries up and bleeds and guts them, should be something salvagable.

That's actually quite sad. Pigs are suprisingly intelligent animals, and burning to death is a bad way for anything to have to go.

Pigs on Fire would be a great name for a band.

Yes it is.
The trooper really was confronted with a tragic situation.
No compassionate person enjoys seeing another living creature suffer so horribly.
Even the livestock that we slaughter for food,
or the undesirable varmints/vermin that we exterminate
should be dispatched as quickly and humanely as we can.

Nevertheless, we can't undo what's already been done,
and there's no sense in wasting good meat.

You gotta admit, "trooper shoots pigs on fire" is sentence that may never have been uttered before...

...and I've said some pretty stupid things after a six pack or two.

Yep, it's one of those classic headlines that just grabs the reader's attention and makes 'em say: "WTF? I gotta read more!"

I'm a bassist/guitarist and Pigs on Fire works for me, too!

I don't play any instruments, and I can't carry a tune in a bucket. With a name like Pigs On Fire, I think I should be the lead singer, and play a couple instruments too.

Zounds! You possess the obvious qualifications for lead singer/guitarist. You'll even be able to skip the step of having to get too stoned to be able to play, and go straight to having guitar players patched in from backstage to cover up for you...

My only downfall is that I'm just average looking. If we have all our concerts in the morning, that should solve the problem, as I look like a washed-up rock star before my first cup of coffee.
