Mensa just seems silly. It's just a club for people who want to whip out their brains and compare sizes. If they weren't as intelligent, they'd be whipping out other, nether body parts to compare.

Intelligence has to be weighed on equal footing with wisdom, experience, etc. Mensa's more about ego from the people I've known who have actually wanted to join.

150 at last measurement... which was 20 years ago. Of course all those times I read the NY Times probably brought it down significantly.

Boy, there are a lot of smart people here. My IQ is about 126, it seems to always come out about there when I take those tests. I never took a real one, just the on line ones. But I feel the results are about right. My kid is smarter than I am and she tested 139 in school.

Everybody here is like a freaking genius, I'm so impressed!

In case anyone is interested. An IQ of 100 is average and the standard deviation of population as a whole is 15 points. A review of statistics 101 reveals that 70% of the population falls within 1 standard deviation of the average and 95% of the population falls within 2 standard deviations.

Therefore, A person with an IQ of 115 would have a higher intelligence quotient than than 85% of the population as a whole and a person with an IQ of 130 would have a higher intelligence quotient than than 97.5% of the population as a whole.

When you get into the range above 130 I am of the opinion that a person with an IQ of 150+ would have cognitive abilities several times that of someone with an IQ of 130. Note that is just my opinion.

Based in the above and assuming that current national polls are reasonably accurate, one can ascertain that a person with an IQ of 95 or less is most likely a Kerry voter.

Get off the truck scales, Willie, this is about IQ.

I gotta finish my coffee and find my bifocals first.
I suppose there are SOME FReepers who're bored of doing the NY Times Sunday crossword in ink.
If this thread becomes popular, maybe I'll post my SAT score and let them figure out my IQ using correlation/regression methods.

I'm very good looking but not nearly as intelligent as I appear.. When I was 20 I was very smart but I have learned a lot less since then and am presently not very smart.

My old man was the dumbest man on earth when I was 16 but he sure learned a lot in the next four years.-Mark Twain.

The third guy walks in and utters close to the machine, "uhhh my IQ is 79". Out of the speaker comes.... "You democrats really gonna vote for Kerry?"

Long, long ago, the punch line to this joke was:

"Ten-four good buddy. What's your handle?"

INTELLECT
What a fine thing it is to have an intellect, and room enough in the seat of your breeches to hold it.

Hmmm, interesting. You know mankind is the only lifeform on earth that needs toilet paper (in some form). Must be the creator deemed man needed to inspect his total daily production at least once a day (hopefully).. to make him humble probably.

No, however high it is (and I'm sure it's very high), some will try to top it by claiming to have scored 1650 on their SATS.:)

But the government says inflation is low, and we shouldn't worry about things like that.
