Good intro befor ethe show
Or that, since it is a Friday night, nobody really watched at all.
So what was the surprise you were expecting?
Pinz
I think you got it right...the first ten minutes looked really good....hard hitting like a fox news piece....and then it was all patchwork that looked more like "entertainment tonight" than a documentary.
They caved in.(sigh)
Why does that not surprise me? Sinclair should be ashamed for their advertising. I just checked again and it was listed as Stolen Honor on the guide.
They got upset after the first 10 minutes. From what I read there that was the most damning part of the show, and some were so pissed they turned it off. I don't know. Can the POW's or the man who made the film sue Sinclair for how they dishonored them?
Mark Hyman, VP PR at Sinclair does a piece called the Point with Mark Hyman everyday or so. In recent days, weeks, months he has nailed Kerry on every meaningful story we have all applauded. I thought he would have guided a more anti-Kerry piece. Maybe that was the original intention and the higher ups forced balance. My only question is why give it so much advance warning to get the negative reaction? If they would have announced Tuesday or Wed, everyone would have watched without the neg pub.
they know as much about an October surprise as we do. Like they'd tell someone that posts on ABC message board.
Unless you were really into news and this campaign, they did turn it off -- I only kept it on to see if something important was going to be said and can report -- there wasn't. It did not flow and did not make sense.
That's what I thought.
But then again I thought this show tonight was going to be good.
This coming Monday, I will return a call to them with a Kerry type flip flop of my feelings about their flip flop.
TPD
I am still sitting and cannot believe what I witnessed. It was like one camp put the first 10 minutes together and the the Kerry for President did the rest!
How do you balance a cheat and a liar
that will stop at nothing in order to gain money and power
with an honorable President whose primary focus is protecting
Americans?
It can't be done.
The two are miles apart. Night versus day. Back versus white.
Sinclair Broadcasting Group blew it. They blew it on purpose.
They know that Kerry is unfit to be President. They never asked why Kerry refuses to sign Form 180 which would make public all of his military records. The never said that President Bush signed Form 180. Instead, they quoted a person saying that all of Bush's files have not been found.
Sinclair should have asked why the mainstream media and mainstream journal programs -- 60 Minutes, etc. -- has continuously held President Bush's feet to the fire for the past six months yet have not held Kerry accountable one-tenth as much.
The clearly catered to the mainstream media status quo talking points regarding Rathergate/memogate. Rather than explaining the facts themselves they showed a talking head parroting talking points. The show host said that within 24 hours the blogs had discredited the memos, The talking head said, paraphrasing, ''the media houses (CBS) doesn't have dozens of people to verify the validity of documents like the blogsphere does."
It's widely known that the experts 60 Minutes used to inspect the documents couldn't verify their validity and were concerned that they may be forged.
I could go on and on. If I get a cop of the show to put on my hard drive I may do complete analysis.
As it stands, Sinclair has used up their one error. They get one second chance. If they repeat their error -- reporting the truth that can be easily manipulated rather than report with honesty that has no gray era -- I'll conclude that they are but another media outlet shooting themselves in the foot and have earned their ticket to go down with the Old Media Titanic.
If they hadn't had Stolen Honor in the TV Guide and hadn't had the hype on advertising it, I wouldn't have been so disgusted. This wasn't even A POW's History so they are going to get the negative reaction they totally deserve.
Very good idea! They deserve it!
Didn't they fire someone this past week for speaking out against airing Stolen Honor. If he was a Senior producer, he probably had many similar thinkers working for him. At the last minute, they had to throw something together with these less than company CEO leaning reporters. This is what we get.
Very good points! This was a sellout. I have absolutely zero faith left in the TV broadcast media.
It definitely looked like it was thrown together after the first 10 minutes.
I have wondered many times why the POWs don't sue j. kerry for defamation, mental and physical damages, etc. I think they have a strong case.
