I ran across this picture and well considering Frank Sinatra was a democrat, I thought Dino was too.
You're correct in saying that the party was pretty radical from at least the turn of the century onward, but they were better at concealing it then, and the rank-and-file did not share their views on communism and the like. I would say it is in the '60s that the "regular folks" started to wake up and see the Dems weren't for them.
I used to babysit some of his grandchildren. His son Michael lived next door.
We have Joey Bishop to thank for giving us Regis Philbin.
Dino's drunk routine was just an act. He was at one point one of the highest paid people on TV.
Dean was also supposedly a real homebody. He was devastated when his son Dino died in the Air National Guard flying an F-4 Phantom. They said he was never the same and died brokenhearted because of his son's death.
Definitely the "King of Cool!" He was one of a kind, and there will never be another like him.
Given the roots of guys like Martin and Sinatra, it's only logical they were Democrats back when they started out.
As time went on, their Democrat Party veered radically left, Martin saw the business sense in supporting Republicans, and Sinatra had his blow up wth JFK - making Republicans out of them.
That said, that's an awesome pic. My favorite actor, favorite president, two favorite singers, and the best damn entertainer the USO ever deployed to the troops.
Not only JFK's brother-in-law, but a Brit. I don't recall him ever getting U.S. citizenship.
It's amazing to think of how far Hollywood has fallen since the heyday of real stars like these men.
My parents took me to see True Grit in the theatre when I was maybe 4, and I've been a huge fan since.
What's the difference between a drunk and an alcoholic?
An Alcoholic is a drunk that likes meetings
Yes, but Sinatra supported Reagan fully.
Regis is a Republican.
I agree with your analysis of High Noon, however I still think it's a terrific movie, and I own it.
The music was terrific. Tex Ritter. I also own Rio Bravo, which is excellent. I just love Westerns, I hope they never totally die out.
In the present, I tend to think the association between Hollywood Lefties and the Democrat party hurts them far more than it helps. It's pretty difficult to pretend you're not "way out there" when you associate with people who say the kinds of things Sean Penn, Richard Dreyfuss, Julia Roberts, et alhave so publicly to say.
People tend to forget that Sammy Davis did benefits for Nixon as well.
Sammy Davis Jr. on All in the Family, is still the most funny sitcom episode ever.
