Planned Parenthood "Celebrates" the Season

I recently came across Steven Ertelt’s article on Planned Parenthood’s Christmas cards, or ''Holiday'' cards, if you are so generically and secularly inclined (''Planned Parenthood’s Christmas Cards Ready to Offend Again'' at Lifenews.com). Mr. Ertelt invites his readers at the end of his article to send responses to the organization at: store@ppfa.org.

There seems to be a movement away from acknowledging the purpose of our winter holidays. I have read countless articles citing the actions of the ACLU in its attempt to erase the word ''Christmas'' from the consciousness of public America. And yet, I wonder, what is everyone doing? What is the point of this so-called ''Holiday Season'' or, worse yet, ''Winter Break?'' And do the organizations that deny Christmas, an undoubtedly religious celebration, really deserve all the money they make precisely because of the people who celebrate it? And ought Planned Parenthood to peddle Christmas cards at the same time that it remains not only steadfastly secular, but anti-religious?

If this ''Holiday Season'' is indeed just an arbitrary winter break, what makes it so appropriate a time for Planned Parenthood to send its message? If there is nothing beyond the mundane being celebrated on December 25th, why do they see this as such a prime opportunity? Their website’s holiday greeting reads: ''Tis the season to share with family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the message of ‘choice on earth.'' But what makes this a time in which people are open to messages of love, friendship, and peace? Or don’t the people at Planned Parenthood realize that the original prayer (yes, it was a prayer) was for peace on earth?

It's because there is something behind this celebration, and no matter which way you slice it, it's Christ. Beyond the obvious obscenity of the organization's decision to blaspheme the birth of what the vast majority of religious in the US believe to be their Savior is the slimy way they try to play it off as inspired by compassion and open-mindedness.

At the very least they could take the time to understand what Christmas celebrates - not simply grab at the opportunity to smear their message all over every last decent tradition. For our sake, (not for God's sake, mind you, but for ours) Christmas is above all about sacrifice - something Planned Parenthood ought to admit to knowing nothing about.

As an organization, they by and large counsel women not only to forego taking responsibility for their own actions through abortion, but invite them to forego responsibility in advance through contraceptives, and to, in effect, build their whole way of life upon a foundation of ignorance and weakness painted as though it were knowledge and strength.

Have they not taken note of the statistics that point toward the glaring failure of their cause? Why do they not care how much worse off women are who embrace their philosophy of sex and family? And what of their families - unless, of course, they’ve already helped them to kill their own children - have they fared any better? All these poor pathetic women, Planned Parenthood seems to say, who have no ability to control when or with whom they have sex and who ought never have to feel the consequences - someone should help them to keep going the way they are going.

Give a man a fish; you feed him for a day. But then, at least you didn't judge his way of life before he starved to death, right?

As a Catholic, I believe that the aberration of Planned Parenthood’s Christmas message comes down to this: Christ was born into the flesh on Christmas day as the culmination of the fiat of Mary, who submitted her own will to that of the Father in order to bear the Son of God. His entrance into this world was God becoming man. He not only lowered Himself in this way - He did it for man. He took on all the sins of the world and received judgment on behalf of all mankind, dying on the cross after unspeakable pain and suffering.

This is the man whose birthday Planned Parenthood has used as an opportunity to spread their message of ''Choice on Earth.'' They have essentially stood at the cross and nodded in approval of the bad thief who counseled choice to Christ.

Planned Parenthood, shame on you.
