Five people have been indicted on prostitution charges in Oregon after a 16-year-old Clark County girl called 911 from a McDonald's in Hillsboro and said she'd had a fight with her pimp.
The alleged pimp, 22-year-old Cathie Lynn Sorenson of Forest Grove, Ore., was being held Tuesday night on $1 million bail in the Washington County Law Enforcement Center in Hillsboro.
Sorenson is charged with compelling prostitution and kidnapping, both felonies. She pleaded not guilty and is to appear in court on Jan. 21.
Her boyfriend, 21-year-old Margareto Soto-Victoriano, also faces prostitution charges and is being held on $760,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said. He is to appear in court on Feb. 4.
The girl, who was not identified, has been returned to Clark County, where an arrest warrant alleging theft had been issued for her previously.
The teen was not injured and isn't being charged in the alleged prostitution, said Hillsboro Police Department Detective Ted Schrader.
Schrader said the case surfaced Nov. 26 when the girl called 911 from a McDonald's in Hillsboro and said she was having problems with her pimp.
The girl later told police she'd been working as a prostitute for Sorenson for about a week in Forest Grove, near Hillsboro. The girl told officers the relationship had soured because "she wasn't getting any money," Schrader said.
To protest her lack of income, the girl broke a window in Sorenson's van in Forest Grove, then caught a ride to Hillsboro. The suspects found her there and ordered her as a way of repaying them for the broken window to have sex with a man in a Hillsboro home, Schrader said.
After the sex act, the girl called 911, Schrader said.
An investigation led police to the Hillsboro home where the alleged prostitution had occurred. Police found the home filthy and with no functioning toilet, so they arrested the woman who lives there on suspicion of criminal mistreatment of her four children, Schrader said.
A grand jury later indicted the Hillsboro woman on the mistreatment charges, as well as promoting prostitution because she allegedly knew the prostitution occurred and allowed it to happen in her home, Schrader said.
The Hillsboro woman's daughter, 15, also was indicted for allegedly threatening the 16-year-old with harm if she didn't engage in prostitution.
Police also are looking for a fifth person, a female friend of Sorenson's who also was indicted in regard to the alleged prostitution, Schrader said.
Officials with the Clark County Juvenile Court and detention center said Tuesday evening that they weren't sure whether the 16-year-old was still in custody there or had been released.

I noticed that and thought pimp was male (i.e.lumberjack) - crossing off Oregon as retirement potential.
