I have V2. The easiest distro I've ever seen to set up and run. Plus, you can download Firefox and Thunderbird which are cross platform browsers and e-mail clients. The built-in Mozilla Suite browser is as good as it gets. With the Deluxe Version, there is Cross Over Office, so one can run supported Windows programs in Linux.

I have spyware blaster which I think maintains your hosts file .... plus I put in a good hosts file from this site: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm.

You mentioned having a good hosts file a few days ago.

For the general interest, not all spyware removers are honest and some are spyware themselves.

"And that's probably the most insidious issue with spyware: having to waste the time and effort, not to mention the resources, to nuke your own equipment."

If anyone would like to determine what processes are running in the background, potentially hogging memory, and which are okay to kill and how to kill them, check out this web site -- I found it very helpful and my PC is now running twice as fast:

Yep, they compromise Spyware Blaster and SpyBot and other well known decent applications in web searches, hoping you'll unwittingly click on their links.

WARNING to all: This is one of the FAKES. Note how many times it says "click here".....

http://www.spywareblaster.com/

It's one of those scumware programs that'll tell you you have infestations, and you'll have to pay to have them removed.

The best programs out there are free. The ones who are truly dedicated to the task of protecting us only asks for donations.

I am running V2 in a testing mode.

Freys may be getting V3 soon, I checked with the Aisle salesman and they have V3 slotted on the computer Database but show no inventory as yet... hanging back so I can save a few bucks with the upgrade credit....

Yes and you wonder how does Joe-average or Grandma who don't haunt the internet day and night are supposed to sort this crap out?

They can start here Broadband Reports Security Forum or here Wilders Seciruty Forums and work off the links and FAQ's found there.

You have to also thank the guys that made Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Javacool SpywareBlaster and Hijack This and provide them free with donations accepted. There are other good guys too but this is a starting point.

That is more likely just a popup AD

I got it again. It comes from http://isg07.casalemedia.com.

I have popup blocking on IE and it seems pretty effective, but I keep getting this particular ad.

Could this be what they call "Adware?"
