Watching After Words on CSPAN tonight. Newt was the featured guest and at the end of the interview, he seemed beyond confident that Dick Cheney would be the Republican nominee for President in 2008. Thanks to the mediocre list of candidates floating around, I assume most freepers are very excited about the possibility.

I agree and also he is a sound and wonderful man but he doesn't have the charisma to run for president.....I don't mean that disrespectfully at all but it seems like half of politics at the national level is a personality contest, just ask Bob Dole who is normally a funny but dead on guy but made a less than inspiring candidate....

Methinks Newt was having a little fun putting the MSM into apoplexy!

Cheney would be a terrible choice in my opinion. His heart condition is already an issue. Plus he is too old, non-charismatic, and doesnt do well with the younger crowds due to him being a "grumpy old man". The republican party neesds someone relatively youthful, decent looking, and is personable. People tend to forget that most Americans don't know crap about politics and vote for the guy who they would rather have a beer with more than anything. ;)

You may be kidding but I have to tell you, there is nothing wrong with Dick Cheney's looks....as a woman, I can definitely see what Lynne sees in her man.
Maybe he doesn't have the charisma of say, a John Kerry, but nobody's perfect. he he

At least Cheney HAS a heart...;o)

Google Senator S. and Palestine. He's made more than a few anti-Israel, pro-PLO statements. Look, he's a decent conservative, but he is of Arab extraction and has not been sufficiently outspoken against all than has brought Arabs to ruin.

First off, let's consider the source.
Newt Gingrich is a washed-up, egocentric has-been, who could have done good things for the Nation and the Republican Party.
Instead, he squandered an historic opportunity to bring credit both to himself, as Speaker; and to the continued growth of the Party
The bum squandered both! His ego destroyed him.
Forget Chaney in '08. Let's just hope he lives out this term, in continued splendid service to Bush and the GOP's greater good.

This is just barely 2005...VP Cheney has a heart condition.
As much as I LOVE the man, and think he is smart, confident, and the dogs bollix!
I don't think he should even put himself through a Presidential campaign, let alone become President.
I wouldn't have confidence in his health...and I'm an international Freeper fan of his.

Well said. Newt appears to be in the advanced stages of JMD--John McCain Disease: He'll say anything to get on Meet The Press.

"No chance. He's got serious Arab problems."
!??!?!?!
He's a Roman Catholic from a family of Roman Catholics whose origin was from Lebanon (which had a Christian majority not too many generations ago before the Islamofascists killed/drove them out/overpopulated them).

You're welcome.

Cheney will resign the VP in about 2 years and Bush could then appoint Jeb or move Rice up. Jeb would secure the hispanic vote, Rice would cut into the black and female vote. This ticket would be very very hard for the democrats to beat.
Hillary will be out of the picture after 2006. Giuliani will take her NY senate seat and Bill will either poison the waters for Hillary or be in prison.

**Forget it--he's said "no" since 2000, and unlike Kerry, he doesn't flip-flop.**
I totally agree.
Newt however has said this before on FOX before Christmas. I do not know what his Agenda is or basis for saying this. I had always believed that he was quite close to Cheney so it surprises me he said on FOX and now again on Cspan.

**I love Cheney, I love his wife a lot also, therefore I hope he doesn't run----
Sometimes you just like someone so much, that for their sakes you just let them go and this is one of those times.
I would love for he and Lynne to be Pres and First Lady but it has been sssss0000 nasty for 4 going on 8 years for them that they will deserve the freedom of their ranch in Wyoming.**
I totally agree with you I am certain that if his health holds he will do something in 4 years time whether it be public speaking or advisory position (not full time) but he is adamant that he will not run for President in 2008 he wants to enjoy his retirement while he can. Spend time with his wife, grand children check out streams for fishing and go shooting. He has earned it and he deserves it. Also Lynne Cheney has publically hinted that one of their daughters might run for some sort of public office and she would like to play an active role in that campaign which I would obviously think must be Liz Perry, so this is what Dick and Lynne Cheney maybe doing in 2008.
Yes the media would go ape about his health but the real reason that he has never run as President is that he is not prepared to do the things you have to do both as a candidate and as President. He is not a baby hugger or a photo op man think of Kerry's duck hunt in Ohio that appalled Cheney. This is Cheney's sport and that is for him to enjoy as a private man not as a political tool.

I sort of agree with you but I would say he does not want to have the charisma the whole artificial campaigning photo ops etc appall him and IMHO he feels gets in the way of what is actually important but unfortunately this makes he a no starter. If he had been he would have run in 1996.
