Bordello leader sentenced to jail Bente Lyon, a self-professed "madame" in Oslo, has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for running a bordello and dealing in drugs. She wasn't in court to hear her sentence, though, because she flew off last week for a holiday in sunnier climes.
"Bente needed a little holiday, after all those weeks in court just before Christmas," said her defense attorney, Øystein Storrvik.
His client is perhaps best known for her salty comments during the trial that also resulted in 10 other convictions involving the "girls" who worked for her. "We massaged a lot more than stiff necks," Lyon said at one point.
She freely admitted the prostitution that went on at her massage parlor, Studio 70, in Oslo. But prostitution is legal in Norway. Pimping activity is not, and prosecutors claimed that was Lyon's main business.
The court didn't believe Lyon's claim that she ran Studio 70 in cooperation with the women who worked there. "The court finds that she was the boss, and the one who in reality operated the place," intoned the court's verdict.
Police raided Studio 70 in 2002 after an employee reported Lyon to the police. Nine of the women working at Studio 70 were convicted, but most were handed sentences of community service work.
Among them is Lyon's own daughter, age 20, who admitted to smuggling cocaine from Amsterdam to New York and from Rio de Janeiro to Amsterdam. She was ordered to perform 309 hours of community service.
But she's on holiday on an unknown beach somewhere south of Oslo along with her mother. Norway's judicial system often allows defendants to remain free until they're called in to serve their jail time.

LOL. That's what I was thinking. Anyway, why this is illegal so long as prostitution it legal is beyond me. It's like saying that farmers should be allowed to growcotton, but can't be a part of a co-op to sell the cotton.
