Boy stuck to a pole
WFSB-TV, Hartford, CT ^ | January 18, 2005 | AP

WYTHEVILLE, Va. It looked like a scene out the movie "A Christmas Story."

A nine-year-old boy in Virginia gave in to temptation while waiting for the school bus on a very cold day. He touched a metal pole with his tongue. His tongue stuck to the post.

The Roanoke Times reports a local police officer talked to the boy at the scene while his dad got some warm water.

The officer asked if the boy was going to do this again. With his tongue still stuck to the post, he said "uh-uh."

The boy's dad applied the water, and the boy's tongue was freed from the post, apparently unharmed.

Why has President Bush allowed the pole-industry to prevent the implementation of pole-warming technology such as they have in Scandinavia and France? IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN!

If poles are outlawed then only outlaws will have poles.

That one's from a Christmas Display (can I still say "Christmas"?). Here's one from the movie:

Now it was serious: A Double Dog Dare. What else was left but a Triple Dare You and finally the coup de grace of all dares -- the sinister Triple Dog Dare. Schwartz created a slight breach of etiquette by skipping the Triple Dare and going straight for the throat.

"Stuck. Stuck. Stuck! Stuck! STUCK! STUCK! STUCK! Aiiiiiiiiiiiggghhhhh!"

My father did that on a railway bridge, when he was about 7 years old (in the early 20's). His brothers - the triple-dog-dare culprits - had to run home and get hot water to extricate him. He showed me the bridge one day, and there isn't much room for someone to stand when a train crosses. Good thing my uncles got there in time!

Well we have some great weather to try to test this out to see if tongues really do stick to poles.

Careful--some people might find this offensive and accuse you of cruelty and the enjoyment of seeing suffering children...

Apparently, we all have to walk on eggshells around these parts. Please refer to this thread for clarification

"President Bush allowed the pole-industry to prevent the implementation of pole-warming technology"
That may be the best reply of the week.

My brother dared me to do that when I was younger and I did it. He knew I was a gullible target. I cried and cried until my mom came out and unstuck me with warm water. It was horrible. Older brothers can be mean sometimes.
