Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on .
"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.
Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.
"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."
The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."
"Impossible. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France!"
The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained.
"Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in '44 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find any Frenchmen to show it to.
That's a good one. How soon they forget.
Thanks for posting this.

Certainly my experience wasn't like the old timer's, but I arrived at Degaulle airport very early one morning in the late70's on a flight from NYC and never even saw a Customs/Immigration officer. My passport never got an entry stamp and nobody made a comment when I left
How the hell can he be a threat to national security, he's 83? Meanwhile the muslim pop. in France is growing en masse.
It was mistake to prolong the existence of nation beyond the point of it cultural and political viability.
It's an urban legend, but funny. There's a similar one about a pilot landing a plane at a German airport that is a little more to the point.
Damm frogs.
