However, all of the above sweeteners are loaded onto either maltodextrin or dextrose (which are carbohydrate sources) to provide "bulk" (these sweeteners are 200+ times sweeter than sugar by volume in their natural state).

Actually you can buy pure liquid sucralose off the internet. No carbs or fillers, just sweet.

I only thought such forms were available for manufacturers.

I will have to look for that! :-) (I guess I'll be putting on the weight now...)

It's called Sweetzfree.
http://www.sweetzfree.com/

It is really very good. I have to be careful with fillers as they can cause...intestinal discomfort. Which means that most sugar free stuff off the shelf is off limits for me.

I've gone without consuming sugar (to the degree humanly possible) for the last 11 months.

I can now smell carmel upwind of the source, and as far as 4 miles away ~ in my sleep!

You probably don't need to eat as much sugar as you do.

Milk has lactose. Juice has fructose, and sometimes glucose, and sucrose.

Aged cheddar cheese has little or no lactose. I enjoy watching other people eat oranges, and so forth.

LOL You really can.

Carmel and cinnamon buns, those are the only things I occasionally still crave.

Exercise and eat in moderation and you'll be ok. The natural sugars break down faster. There is also Lactose free milk.

"Rats can't read the labels, but we can," says Swithers. "We have to take that extra step of reading the labels or asking how many calories are in there. That may be enough so that we can compensate for those sweet calories."

Unfortunetly too many people either have a rat's intelligence or are just so hopelessly lazy they don't care to take care of themselves: would disrupt their indulgent life style. The worst part is: if you indulge all the time, anything special about it goes away.

Further, all the thin people I know (including myself) wouldn't touch diet soft drinks, nor regular soft drinks. In fact, soft drinks are simply off the menu for anyone concerned with their health. They tend to be consumed by lower-income, lower-intelligence people who are more prone to advertiser influence and can't think for themselves.

Uh, I don't think so...

Well, to be honest, I also have run about 1600 miles a year over the past two years. It helps keep that weight down. I don't drink sugared soda because I did some major damage to my teeth in college due to my 3 Mountain Dew a day habit. I'm down to about one sugared soda every two weeks or so, because I have about ten potential cavities I'm holding at bay.

When water is deemed fattening, I will have a good reason to switch to beer.

I have had better results with weight loss when I dump diet soft drinks. Splenda does seem to be different and I have not heard any official declaration that this causes weight gain too. Any one know if Splanda is off gray list?

No, not "eat in moderation" ~ I have to exclude whole huge categories of food from my diet otherwise I end up with blood sugar counts in the 300s.

It takes dedicated fanaticism to keep Type II diabetes under control.

Oh, I didn't realize you were diabetic. I was speaking for myself. I might snack to much on sugary stuff, to tell the truth, but I keep away from Soda, most of the time (drink it about once every two to four days) and eat twice a day (all I really need). I think I run off of about a 2,000 to 2,500 calory diet. I'm 5'10", 201 lbs (now my thick skull might make up about 30lb of that :0) ) and have a 33" waist. I exercise about three to four times a week, lots of weight lifting, usually to muscle fatigue.

The exercise tends to speed up my metabolism and burn more calories.
