The Most Romantic Movie Moment (St. Valentines day alert)
Ananova ^ | 2/11/05 | staff

If you fancy a bit of romance this Valentine's Day, get yourself a pottery wheel and a bit of moist clay.

Alternatively you could just settle down with a bottle of vino and watch Ghost after the scene when Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze get filthy (hands) in the pottery scene is voted the most romantic film moment of all time.

In a survey by Blockbusters, the second most heart-warming (or vomit-worthy - depending on your cynicism level) movie moment is the scene from Titanic when Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio are perched precariously on the ship's prow in that 'flying' mode.

Romantic comedy queen Meg Ryan did well in the poll, with her scene from You've Got Mail - when she mets Tom Hanks for the first time - coming third.

Her New Year's kiss with Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally came fourth.

Joint fifth went to the scene in Sweet Home Alabama when Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas' characters are on the beach when lightening strikes twice and the scene when Adam Sandler sings to Drew Barrymore from first class on the airplane in The Wedding Singer was sixth.

No room for classic romances like Gone With The Wind - or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre then.

Top Romantic Movie Moments

Ghost - Sam and Molly's passionate pottery scene.

Titanic - Jack and Rose fly across the Atlantic.

You've Got Mail - Joe and Kathleen meet face to face in the park.

When Harry Met Sally - Harry and Sally turn friendship into love over a New Year's kiss.

Sweet Home Alabama - Lightning strikes twice for Melanie and Jake on the beach.

The Wedding Singer - Robbie sings to Julia from first class.

Mine was in the Quiet Man when John Wayne manhandles Maureen O'Hara.

How about the scene at the end of McLintock!, where Wayne give O'Hara the spanking she deserves? ;)

I get excited every time I see the scene in "To Have And Have Not" where Bacall tells Bogart, "If you need me just whistle. You do know how to whistle, don't you Steve? You just put your lips together and BLOW."

Bacall was SOOOOO HOT!

Bacall/Bogie would be in the top 5, for sure.

The rooftop scene in "True Romance" where Alabama tells Clarence that she was a whore but now her feelings for him are real.

The sunrise on the solar panels scene in "Gattaca" with Una Thurman and Ethan Hawke.

The two surprise kiss at the water fountain scenes in "Great Expectations" once when they were 12 and later as adults.

Speed, unfortunately I'm not familiar with any of those movies. I'm sure many others are though.

"True Romance" is an anamoly because it is almost over the top in violence and gore. All of the gunplay makes it a very entertaining movie for guys, but what was very well done in the movie was the relationship between Clarence and Alabama. It is very touching and the actors portray the true love and devotion the two have for each other fantastically. Women absolutely love this movie because of that.

Dr. Zhivago. I remember this movie made me want to be a woman,... even though I had several more years until I became one.

There's one thing I do know, and that is that I love you, Scarlett. In spite of you and me and the whole silly world going to pieces around us, I love you. Because we're alike - bad lots both of us, selfish and shrewd, but able to look things in the eyes and call them by their right names...I've loved you more than I've ever loved any woman. I've waited longer for you than I've ever waited for any woman.

Here's a soldier of the South who loves you, Scarlett, wants to feel your arms around him, wants to carry the memory of your kisses into battle with him. Never mind about loving me. You're a woman sending a soldier to his death with a beautiful memory. Scarlett, kiss me. Kiss me, once.

Sigh.

Never saw it, but I loved the parody of the scene in "Naked Gun."
