The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ours is Spiral Sliced and hickory smoked, and when we walked in the door from Mass the house smelled wonderful with it and the Garlic Cheese bread finishing up. The bread will be done in just about 20 mins, so I'm gonna have to go start fixing the greenie beanies!

Hope you have a Blessed Easter meal with your friends. I'm glad you have folks to be with since you can't be with your family. I forgot to ask David if he'd be going to someone's house for Easter like he did for Christmas. Paul came in for the weekend, and will be here til this evening. His Spring Break was this past week, but he's the Articles Editor for a Law Journal at Cornell and had work to do during the week. He got home late on Thursday night. It's great to have him, even for a short time. ;o)

We're having Easter dinner, at four, becausee the two of us who are "hosting" go to church so we'll need time to prepare. I'm heading on over in about half an hour. It's gonna be good!

A beautiful, sunny, warm day here. The drive home, which is west toward the mountains, was gorgeous; snow-capped mountains looming overhead do something to me...

Good to hear! I'm glad the West is getting into your blood. If you ever leave, you'll find your heart yearning to see the mountains again.

I'm off to see some of my favorite mountains again tomorrow in southern NM. Won't be the same camraderie that I've gotten used to. I'm bringing the "B-Team" with me and it's going to be a series clash of personalities. Codename Ponytail Girl is legendary for annoying the heck out of everyone. She thinks she knows it all, is in charge, and that everyone is present to serve her every need. *sigh* She is also on record for not wanting to "stay in that hellhole any longer than she has to." Grrr. Ya can't say that about my White Sands!!

Happy Easter, everyone!

I have decided to lose maybe 7 or 8 pounds, so have started writing up a little "weight plan," I call it the

Sam Cree Weight Plan

Jeanne has already commented that is sounds arrogant to use words like "dumba$$ in a weight plan. But it is directed at myself as much as anyone. Anyway, I wanted it to be an enjoyable read.

I think you should do an Infomercial. And remember, you got the idea from me, so I get a percentage...

He is not here! He is Risen!

Evenin' folks.

Long, but wonderful day. Started with choir rehearsal before 8:00 a.m. and sang thru both services. Ended both with the Hallelujah Chorus. Pastor's daughter and another lady, both trained opera singers, sang "I Know that My Redeemer Liveth" then we kicked into an up tempo gospel song "He Made the Difference." Heh...we like to keep 'em guessing.

Pastor used the resurrection scene from "The Passion" in his sermon. It was my most favorite part of the movie and it blended in beautifully today.

Had family and Jr's girlfriend over for dinner. Was nice. But we're exhausted. Gonna see the final outcome of the Michigan/Kentucky (Michigan just won) game, then watch a movie.

Well, maybe I will post the Sam Cree Weight Plan in "breaking news" when I finish writing it up.

Fireworks been going off...I don't remember that being particularly an Easter thing, maybe I haven't been paying attention.

Going to VA very briefly for a funeral, an old and very close friend passed away a day or so ago.

You're not the only exhausted one... we had nine folks for dinner. And food for twenty. Everyone was well-fed and well-liquored, except the pregnant gal, and we played a nice game of Balderdash and had conversation. Majorly impressive getting eight grad students to not-work and not discuss school for five hours.

Has been a very decent Easter, even if I miss my folks. I am reminded of 1st Corinthians 15 where it says something like - "If He has not risen, then we are of all people to be most pitied; but He had risen." We do not hope in vain.

Mornin'. Thunderstormin' here. Restless night at Castle Stormhands last night.

I went to bed around 11:00. Just before midnight I heard a "thump" and then Nana screaming from her bathroom. We found her crumpled up in the bathtub. As far as we can tell she's "okay" but she got a gash on her nose and a HUGH bump on the back of her head. It was a pretty scary sight. The cut wasn't deep, but it was a bleeder. So the first thing we saw was Nana with her head in the tub, her feet over the edge and her nightgown covered with blood.

Best we can figure is that she thought it was a good idea to wash up ~after~ she took her sleeping pill. Needless to say wife was pretty stressed out for a good while. Nana woke us up about an hour later because of the pay. We don't ~think~ there as serious injury since she was able to talk and she never lost consciousness. We were able to get her up and back to her room.

But there are all kinds of considerations here. None of which I brought up with the wife last night. We are fast approaching the point where it's not safe to leave Nana alone at any time - like when we're at work, at church, etc. She has to back into the chair lift at the top of the stairs. If this had happened there...well, you get the idea.

Surgery for the hip is tomorrow. I think during recovery we need to look seriesly at what our options are. We can't afford to have someone be here all the time when we're not. Anyway, too much speculation for a Monday morning and I'm late for work...

See y'all in a few.

To: osagebowman

hope yours was a blessin'...

Friday was 35 and drizzlin'... not the best day fer outdoor activities...

the bows they had were fiberglass (personal bows weren't allowed) with weak strings... arrows were way heavy fer the bows... when theboy brought one to full draw, it didn't even reach the target 15 yds away... by the third arrow he was on the bale, and the 4th and 5th were on target... problem is, they only had five shots fer the competition... if'n he'd had his osage stickbow, he'duh smoked 'em all...

pinewood derby wuz a little disappointin' fer the kids... they had tuh hand over their cars, and didn't get tuh touch'em again till the competition was done....

wuzn't a bad day, but I don't think it lived up to any of the boys expectations...

Oh my goodness!

It does seem that some decision is needed...I know it's going to be hard. I'll keep you in my prayers too.

I hope everyone had an wonderful weekend? I sure did. Celebrated the Lord's ressurection whith my own congregation for the first time in years. My little brother came over and I gave his daughters some egg-shaped bubble gum, their little yellow Beetles (little die-cast cars) and a dozen eggs from their chicks I got them last year for Easter...all green and blue already, no need to dye!

;-)
