John Batchelor is very good. He's got a show on WABC (77) in NYC. He's well spoken and usually has very interesting guests. I happen to like him a lot but that's just me...

From a quick look, it seems like he has both lib and conservative guests on, must get quite lively on his shows.

John is top notch and I think you'll enjoy his show. Very well thought out. His web site is quite good too. It has great links esp. to Iranian freedom sites.
Batchelor has a wide range of interests. You'll hear everything from Intelligence reports related to current events to a segment about NASA and a book review with an author at the end of the show. He is different -give me a listen.
PS Boy, does he hate the UN!

He doesnt run a blog, he has a radio program. Take a look at my posting. I failed to mention he is a Republican, has a witty sense of humor, wrote a history of the Republican party which I think was ' Aint you Glad you joined the Republicans ' - he closes the program with Kate Smiths

I have to admit that I am a regular listener and the show is excellent in terms of content and coverage of issues. My beef with JB is that, when he has a liberal guest (or Stalinist like Kristina VandenHuevel), he swings left and sounds all jolly when they are attacking conservatives and Bush. When he gets someone conservative, he swings back the other way. Worst of all, he has an English journalist on, usually late in the program (John McDonald or something) who is such a rabid Bush and America hater, that I can't see any reason why he should be included in any lineup.

Bottom line: The show is great, but I would count Batchelor himself in the Country Club Republican category (wants to be loved by the left too much).

I've heard him do that in the past as well with a number of guests and its the only complaint I have about him. He had Gore Vidal on who was ranting on and on and on...JB didnt challeneg him and simply went with it. I emailed JB with my thoughts and he was good enough to respond. If I recall he basicly said he was being polite, that having a guest on isnt an invitation to interregate him.
As far as that ' English ' nit wit who comes on from time to time. He is Scotish and gay. Total rabid anti American who blusters about with wild statements.

Thanks for your thoughts. He also replied to my email about said English twit and said he felt that the guy provided the perspective from over there. I wrote back and thanked him, but said there has got to be someone less venemous to provide perspective from the guy.

It's the dangerous subversive from overseas here.

Listen guys if you are going to rant about foreign affairs you should try a little accuracy. A few friendly thoughts;

1) There is a difference between Scotland and England. As Canadians you should understand these sensitivities.

2) 'Scottish' has two ts. 'Venomous' has two os. If you are going to be a righter spelling will come in handy.

3) Being critical of Bush is not the same as being 'anti American'. You don't have a one party state just yet.

4) Blustering is better than bombing (found any of those WMDs yet?)

5) Now the relevance of my being gay is what exactly? (Although it certainly explains some of these feelings I've been having..)


Glad you are listening though. It's a fun show. And it's great to talk to JB, an educated right winger.

1) We are not ranting about foreign affairs within this thread. We are discussing the JB show. We were also discussing what we don't like about the JB show. Thats where you come in. Nothing more. Perhaps you are referring to all Free Republic threads?

2) We know full well the difference between Scotland and England. At times Americans have difficulty determining the difference based on accents alone. Even you know there is a wide range of meat grinding done to the English language all over the world. Can you determine the exact US State or region within a state where an American hails from based on his accent?

3) A spelling mistake? You'll have to do better than that. You have never made a spelling mistake? Certainly you must have misspelled 'elitist ' on your resume at least once.

4) "Blustering is better than bombing " Stealing quotes from Neville Chamberlain are you? As for WMD - one of JBs better guests believes they are located in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. It could very well be. Why don't you bring it up with him.

5) Your tone is distinctly anti American and condescending. Your snide comments about President Bush spill over into comments about Americans.

6) As far you being gay. Gay liberal journalist = anti American rantings and an overabundance of tedious subjects related to homosexuality. I don't give a fig what you do in the bedroom - I simply don't need to be reminded of it over and over again.

But seriously, you obviously DON'T know the difference between Scotland and England otherwise you wouldn't have compared them with US states. They are countries (which Ohio, for example, isn't).

What else? Oh yes - Neville Chamberlain never said "blustering is better than bombing" or anything like it. Are you thinking of 'jaw jaw is better than war war'? (which he didn't say either).

I'm not 'snide' about President Bush. I'm quite overtly critical, as you should be; it's extraordinary that he's the most impressive leader you think you can muster.

Nor am I remotely anti American. I know the country well and love the place. It's presumptious in the extreme for you to try to equate Bush criticism with anti Americanism.

Finally I don't think I've ever mentioned what I 'do in the bedroom'. Frankly it's no-one's business. But I do find it suspicious the way homophobes always want to talk about gay men's bedrooms. Just why are you guys so obsessively voyeuristic? Mmmmmm....I wonder?!

You are not identified as the "Scottish" journalist on the JB show. He introduces you as a journalist speaking from London.

I am not (thank G-d) Canadian. I am a very proud American. No offense to Canadian friends.

I did not refer to you as a dangerous subversive or a homosexual, the former being something you may very well be, which would be a matter of some importance in preserving civil society, the latter of no importance at all, except the delightful prospect that you will not be reproducing yourself.

I have carefully listened to your snotty, demeaning comments about my president and our country's apparent stupidity to know without any reservation that you hate America and Mr. Bush in equal venomous measure. YEP! she was shaken alright!! because on the BATCHELOR SHOW she is use to just going ON and ON WITHOUT being "questioned" about her accusations!!

How did it end???...with Kat-Trina accusing LARRY of using retheric and OLD ONE LINERS!!What a JOKE!!-figures...since the " old liberal play book " is all THEY have!!

An old thread for certain but I wondered if either of you could help me.
The local station here in Boston, WRKO, dropped the JB show to make room for some local restaurant program. This happened a few months ago. I had been able to stream WABC to listen to John but now that doesn't seem possible. For come time I have had problems getting the WABC stream to open up. I am simply redirected to another part of their web site.
So - I thought you could help. Do either of you know if your local radio station streams John's program? Please let me know the call letters. His program was always interesting and I miss listening in.
With some luck WRKO will bring it back. The program director of the station lasted all of 4 months and the new director just took over.
I have read on www.bostonradiowatch.com that John's program always did very well in the ratings on WRKO and up against the competition posted excellent numbers.
