he's an ole country vet and probably has lots of tricks:') I still haven't figured out what I saw him doing with a stomach tube though. All I can figure out was maybe to remove air. The put one in and flushed it with a little water and blew it it and then asked the owner if she wanted him to go ahead and tube worm since he was already in. I wanted to ask but he was busy, lots of people around and not my horse.
I've seen my vet do this too. I asked him about it once and he said it's to make sure he's got the tube in the stomach instead of the windpipe. He blows into it first, then smells for stomach gas when the air comes back out. If he smells it, he's in the right place. Gross, but effective I guess.
