If there hadn't been the clamor on FR, and the posting of phone numbers to Congress, etc. on these threads, I seriously doubt that Congress would have acted this weekend.
It is because they know that the people who voted for them in the last election care very deeply about this issue.
Indeed, Congressman Steve King was corresponding with a Freeper, ConservativeGreatGrandma, and told her to post the updates on pending legislation on FR! If discussion on the threads were pointless, why would he do that?
So I think it has been instrumental. Not everyone can attend a vigil in Florida.

Good GOD! Some people are absolutely, positively in-freaking-sane!!!! I look at these threads and I see people calling doctors and specialists "Idiots", calling her husband a "Murderer", calling President Bush a "Coward", and calling anyone who doesn't want to rush in and grab her and fly her to switzerland "Death Cultists".
These people FREAK ME OUT!!!
I haven't been more tired of a story since Elian Gonzalez.
However, this is an issue that goes to the core of what conservatism is and I understand completely why some people are moved by it.
The Schiavo case is being written about so much; and because it is a pinnacle point in America.
The Democrats have spent overlong trumping and championing Universal Health Care -- and are now busy showing exactly what they have in mind for anyone who doesn't measure up to their standards of "life". What's going on in this case is a major "slippery" slope battle and can determine the direction of American domestic and legal policy for many, many years -- and within each state
Maybe you do, and good for you, but, just watch who is remaining after this is all over. 90% will go away, just like a couple years ago and not give a hoot about the source of the problems or the advancement of conservative causes.

I usually hit news/activism for news updates, but this is getting overwhelming....thank goodness for the few ping lists I am on...
Of course I do. I'm not against anything you all are trying to do, just trying to understand some of the obsession lately. And you have to admit, a ton of newbies are at the heart of this. Will they be as committed to other conservative causes once this is over? How many will plan to attend the next March for Justice II? How many are willing to contribute to JR for bandwidth use? I understand there are financial, family and other responsibilities, but I have to sometimes wonder who some of these people are.
