Sickeningly, it sounds like trying to read the aiming circle up at Fort Drum on my last AT.
Only the mosquitoes there were your average tiny NY variety and teh water wasn't icewater.

Sounds like fun, in the euphemistic sense of the word.
Aiming circle they're using is a modified gyro laser thingy that is a mutated version of some of the newest surveyor's gear.
Thing has an attitude worse thanany rock diva's.

I was very glad that I wasn't the guy who had to sit like a stone pillar next to the thing while the squadrons of mosquitoes made attack runs.

Honestly, I'm getting the crazy idea to head to Alaska.

A person can come to Alaska any time, but it might be well to have at least a whiff of a job first. Every time there is some hope a gas pipeline will be built a bunch of folks show up. It's pretty much an annual thing and has been for 30 years. Still no gas pipeline. ANWR isn't even close to starting up. Surveyors can always find work anyway, even better if they are registered ASLS. That is a lifetime meal ticket.

Nothing wrong with being rear chainman while boning up for the state license exam. Surveyors like to hire people who can do the heavy lifting and have a clue what they are doing.
