Police: Girl, 6, Mauled To Death By Pit Bulls
Officers Shoot, Kill Dogs

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. -- Police said a 6-year-old girl was mauled to death by two pit bulls outside a Hamtramck home Monday morning.
The girl's family was in the process of moving from their home on Belmont Street to a house one block away when the family's dogs somehow broke loose and attacked the girl, police said. Video
Neighbors, Family React To Fatal Dog Attack
Neighbors said they heard the pit bulls barking, the girl crying, and the child's mother screaming.
"She was beating on the door trying to get some help from anybody," said a woman who lives in the area.
Neighbors then reported hearing several shots.
Police responding to the scene distracted the dogs, but were forced to shoot and kill the pit bulls after they lunged at officers, according to Local 4 reports.
The girl's cousin, Renaisa Chaney, said the child's death is the second loss the family has recently suffered.
"The messed up part about it is (the girl's) father passed not too long ago, so for her mother to go through something else like this again, it just really hurts everybody," Chaney said.
The Michigan State Police taped off the area as the child's body remained at the scene at about noon, according to the station's reports.
I like dogs, but it is long past the time for this breed to go.
I, too, like dogs, but many dog attacks around here seem to be done by that same breed. Is it actually the breed of dog, or their treatment or upbringing or... what...
I guess I always thought all dogs had that behavior in them; somebody enlighten me please?
They are inbred to fight. It has gone on for so long that even if one appears to be a warm and loving pet, they have a history of snapping and reverting to their pre-ordained killing machine status.
Outlaw the breed. Period.
Pit bulls were created as urban protection dogs. They were bred for the ability to kill humans who were invading their territory. They are not intended to be used as pets. They are killers by instinct.
If pit bull owners were criminally responsible for the actions of their dogs, there would be very few of these. One guy going to jail for 30 years because he wanted a killer “pet” despite the new risks would save a lot of young lives.
"Dogs of Peace" in a city filled with followers of "The Relgion of Peace" -- a bad combo.

These were the family's OWN dogs?
My ex-hubby tells of growing up in the 40s with a pit bull as a family pet. Tells of one time he toddled off too close to the arroyo near his house and fell in, whereby the pit bull jumped in after him and dragged his scrawny soggy diapered butt back to his mother, where she promptly tanned his bee-hind for wandering off.
Obviously the breed has changed since the forties.
Actually, I've found that black and yellow labs will protect loved ones while being great with kids.
And there's that hunting thing, too!
Aggressive behavior is one thing....
How many deaths in the past, say, five years??
They're not called "pit bulls" because they're really good with kids and old people.
