Bishop Gerasimos Michaleas is the new metropolitan bishop for California and six other Western states.
In a wide-ranging interview, Gerasimos spoke of such things as the TV show "Desperate Housewives," gay marriage, the war in Iraq and the politicization of the Terri Schiavo case.
He admitted he is an unabashed fan of "Desperate Housewives." Said Gerasimos: "That little bit sultry TV program has so many truths in it. I'm watching it every time it's on." He said the show is popular because it depicts what goes on in many families and connects with viewers.

never seen the show, but my family is greek so i have a lot of contact with the orthadox church. As a whole, they are some of the most conservative people you will ever meet, but they always vote democrat, including my family. I have 36 cousins : / that bad movie is like the story of my life
He thinks "Desperate Housewives" is realistic? Ne Zot, what are Greek Orthodox families like? (/s)
I am also Greek as is the rest of my family. I cannot reveal who I am because I have a handful of relatives who are priests and some who are in high capacity positions in the church.
You know how it is.
However, many I know are very liberal in the Greek Church. Yep, many I have met are very much pro-choice, pro-gay rights, etc. At first I was surprised but the more I hear from people, the less conservative I see in the church.
Well, many are first and foremost proud of their Greek Heritage followed by attending Church.
Have you ever seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? That is about as Greek as you can get. Pretty funny movie which brought back memories of many I know.
Yes, many do vote democratic.
Here in AZ, many voted for Butch Napolitano as well. When I attended the Greater Phoenix Greek Festival last year, the Greeks were wearing Kerry for President buttons. There were no Bush buttons. I asked some if they were really voting for Kerry and yep, they were.
I don't claim to understand the mental workings of any society that has national holidays for losing wars.
Well didn't Joyce Meyers say she loves the "L-Word"

Yes. Just think about George Step-on-all-of-us!
What?! I'm not a fan of hers, but I know who she is, and I read the "Joyce & family living large" expose the St. Louis paper did on her last year. We have her counterpart here in Atlanta, and his name is Creflo Dollar.
Did she really say she likes that show?
I tried to watch this just to see what all the fuss was about. I couldn't finish one episode, it was stupid and not entertaining.
I know his relatives very well and two of them are Republicans!!! I've known them for quite some time. Very nice people.
We did see that; it was funny. My family is bats, too, but in a boring, Midwestern way :-).
Just teasing. She just looks like she enjoys the show....
I watched her a long time ago. Believe me, as much as she tells the same lame stories about her husband Dave over and over again, I think we can safely assume she is heterosexual. Or should that be hectorosexual? (Dave is "majorly" [a Joyceism] hen-pecked).
If she was my wife, she'd been in the back yard garden pushing daisies long ago!
Oh, goody. Just what the Church in North America needs.
Thank God I'm in the Antiochain Orthodox Diocese of Wichita and the Great Plains serving under Bishop BASIL!
Does the GOA think it needs to 'counterbalance' Bishop TIKHON of the OCA, whose territory coincides more-or-less with Bishop GERASIMOS', and who (along with Bishop BASIL) is one of the really staunch traditionalists in SCOBA?
