Bush and his Saudi Friends (help me to dispel this LIE)
Me

Posted on 04/28/2005 9:18:34 AM PDT by LauraleeBraswell

One thing I've learned thus far is that to win, the democrat party must lie.

Today I was engaged in an argument with my Communications professor. I like her very much by the way; I've been very fortunate to have tolerant professors. Well, she said something along the lines that Bush is making money off the Saudi oil- his friends the Saudis/that it’s Bush’s fault the oil prices are so high.

Well, I told her how President Bush has been proposing building nuclear power plants. And that Nuclear power is an alternative to oil. Why would he propose such a thing if he is making money off the high oil prices? And that President Bush doesn’t control the oil industry. And years ago when he drilled for oil he actually lost money.

So how exactly did Bush make his money? And what exactly is the deal with him “being friends with the Saudis?” How did this leftist rumor start and is there some truth to it?

I’ve found that to win over people, we have to dispel these untruths. I work by rebuttals. I’m on the defensive. As Senator Patrick Moynihan once said, “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts.

- Ask them to explain how, exactly he (President Bush) is making money off the high oil prices?
- and how exactly it’s Bush’s fault the oil prices are so high. This being a Free-market economy and all.

It is so easy for them to say stuff like that, but they cannot back those accusations up with facts.

- and, what exactly is wrong with him “being friends with the Saudis?” - don't the Left-wingers want us to be friends with everbody? (esp. Totalitarian regimes).

I think the rumors really took off after "Fahrenheit 911" came out. Searching articles debunking F911 will give you some good info.

Everything - and I mean EVERYTHING - they believe is built upon lies. I've found that trying to reason with the irrational is a waste of time.

You got that right. The more facts you present, the louder they roar in an attempt to filibuster the argument. Ever try to get 3 words in a row during the conversation? Can't be done. Every single leftist I have met shares this trait.

LOL - Lefties find themselves in a bind all the time. They don't know which end is up.

Why, FTM, would they be upset at high oil prices?

Don't they hate oil? Don't they love "the environment"? Wouldn't they like high prices so maybe fewer people will use less oil/gasoline and thus help their planet?

Well, there is numerous reasons to drop the Saudis. They have worse human rights records than Saddam's Iraq. They fund and harbour terrorists. They fuel anti-semitism. The finance the human butcherers in the Sudan.

With that sad, Bush is not unique. The strong relationship has been going on at least since Carter.

I challenge anti-semites who claim Israel runs US foreign policy to take a hard look at the influence the Saudis wield.

In the end I'm not sure what the US gets from the Saudis?
