Why Is Scott Still On 'Idol'? Is “votefortheworst.com” propping him up? (+ Bo’s dr

SCOTT Savol, who seems to be the most unlikely finalist on "American Idol" this season, just keeps hanging on.

And viewers are beginning to wonder exactly how Savol, the pudgy kid from Shaker Heights, Ohio, is managing to pull it off, while fan favorites like Constantine Maroulis get the boot, as he did Wednesday night.

Some point to the efforts of a Web site called votefortheworst.com, which considers "Idol" a joke and encourages viewers to cast their votes for Savol because, it says, "he is the worst."

"I think our site definitely has some effect on the results for 'Idol,' " says Dave DellaTerza, the site's creator.

"I always used to say it's just like any 12-year-old girl power-voting for [Idol wannabe] Carrie [Underwood]," he says.

That girl "thinks her results affect the show, too, when they just help to contribute. But I've changed my tune a bit since our Web site got over 100,000 hits in the last two days. Now I'm hearing from people who throw 'vote for the worst' parties, who get office pools together to vote for Scott . . . This has definitely turned into something huge, which I hope will continue."

It was a shock Wednesday when Maroulis, who had never before come even thisclose to getting tossed from the show, was voted out. But the native New Yorker took it in stride.

Sometimes Scott seems to be confused about his race.

I'd say he'd probably do his best in the 10K.

"...He sings a love song as still has his wannabee gangsta hand gestures going...."

I have been wondering about what each hand gesture means. As crazy as it sounds, a little background history of those gestures might help us " better appreciate and understand"(/sarcasm) rap and hip-hop music. Anyone have a clue about that?

I was born with TUS (Terminally Unhip Syndrome). There is no therapy, surgery or cure for this disease.

Still, you put up a spirited defense, that must count for SOMETHING......

I'm with the voteforworse site. I hope fat boy wins, and then the utter stupidity of that show will be on full display, for all to see.

Why anyone watches that tripe is beyond me. Who gives a s**t about a manufactured "Idol"? And can anyone (who's not a rabid fan of the show from its inception) name all of the past Idol winners by heart?

Does anyone really care what the past winners are doing now? Have ANY of them made a hit record since then? Did any of them even have a hit record right after they WON?!?

The only one who's memorable is that idiotic idol Reuben Studdard (or whatever his last name is), and that's only because he's such a flamer, he makes a spectacle out of himself everywhere he goes.

Go fat boy, GO! WIN, and bring that stupid show down with you as your career post-Idol spirals downward faster than any past winner!

Be warned that posting on Free Republic is sure sign that someone might have TUS.

I caught Kelly Clarkson on a rerun of Saturday Night Live last weekend and she was surprisingly pretty good.

"You engineers have been on the cutting edge of the retro chic movement since the fifties. When everybody else started embracing the latest soon-to-be-outmoded "fashion", you guys hung tough."

Well, believe it or not, not everyone can appreciate it as much as you. But now that it's FRESH again, everyone is trying to jump on.

But we know the wannabe's and the real deal. The word spreads on the street, and we "take care" of those that are pretenders

It would be cool to be an engineer just for the hat.

I think you are on to something there. The most popular from last year was William Hung. I'd say that he fits your profile very well (even though he has had no professional training).

Kelly has a great voice, but I think the songs they are giving her aren't really showing her talent at all.

When is the last time you heard a pop song in 3/4 time?

On SNL she did sort of a "No Doubt" hard rock sort of thing. It sounded pretty good to me. It was far from the dico stuff she sang on AI.

He USED to. He sold out. Ever since he got the professional training of singing he dorked out of the scene.

Idol better figure out a better way of doing this or it's over....

I agree. Why don't they have people vote by buying CD's off the internet? Showcase the candidates, post an official CD single for each candidate, and we vote by actually placing the order on our credit card?

Oops, that won't work...because the real purpose behind Idol is to generate phone traffic and make money for the phone companies.

Don't get me wrong.

I think any song that Kelly sings will be pretty good.

She has a talent and range very similar to Maria Carey's.

I just don't believe that she has hit the 'optimal' song just yet.

But I'm willing to bet she will.

I caught Kelly Clarkson on a rerun of Saturday Night Live last weekend and she was surprisingly pretty good.

Who?

See, if this wasn't a discussion about American Idol, I wouldn't have even known who Kelly Clarkson was.

My original question still stands, for you and for anyone else: Are the past winners doing anything of any substance? Also, let me add this one: Does anyone really think that in 5 years anyone's going to know them at all?

American Idol is pure fluff. The definition of American entertainment television. The worst of that category actually, and that's saying a lot. It's not doing anything for society at all, despite its grandiose title, it's not producing any rock stars, it's only generating revenue for the Fox Network.

All the while people are tuning in in droves, most foolishly believing they're witnessing the genesis of an actual rock star, instead of watching something intelligently entertaining, more informative, or (gasp!) reading a book!

Present FReeper company excluded of course.

With shows like Idol though, consuming our thoughts and mental resources as a nation, is it any wonder that this once great country has taken such a precipitous slide into ignorance in the last 10 years?
