Funniest commercial ever--Pepsi's new ad
Me | 5/7/2005 | Me

Just saw a howlingly funny new Pepsi ad set in ancient Rome. A couple of Roman soldiers ride up to a group of ragged men wearing chains. One is holding a paper bag.

"Hey, guys," says a soldier, "one of you left this behind at the last rest stop. There's half a sandwich here, and a can of Pepsi. I think the guy's name is written on the bag. Yeah, it says Spartacus. Anybody here named Spartacus?"

Cut to Kirk Douglas standing up and saying, "I'm Spartacus," then Tony Curtis, then the rest of the crowd. It's the actual scene from the movie, with modern actors layered in on top.

It's a total hoot. I laughed so hard I nearly choked.

>>I don't even understand the BK ads.<<

Probably a good thing.
My five and seven year olds do understand them.

I haven't seen it. I guess they don't show it much on the science channel or history channel or nickelodeon. It sure sounds good though.

I've never seen the Pepsi commercial in question. IMHO, the best commercial on the air these days is the GEICO with the cavemen. "NOT cool." "That's SOO condescending."

"I find the Burger King ads to be CREEPILY funny."

My wife feels the same way. That King thing is gross.

I find the Burger King ads to be CREEPILY funny.

No kidding. I find "the Burger King" character in the mask way too similar to Michael Meyers!

I'd really like to know who's coming up with some of these more disturbing commercials lately. There's the Chips Ahoy commercial that used to play on Fox and Friends in the morning, where there's a little girl's birthday party, and everyone's sitting around the table, including a big, talking Chips Ahoy cookie. He (the cookie) says, "Where's the Birthday Cake?" the little girl answers, "Cake? We're not having cake." And everyone starts eyeing the cookie hungrilly! The last time we see the cookie, he's looking worried!

There's another commercial by Dairy Queen for their popcorn shrimp. You see this "daddy shrimp" eating something, and his wife comes over to see what he's got. He says he's eating DQ popcorn, and when she tries one, she realizes what she's eating and shouts, "You idiot! That's not popcorn! That's popcorn shrimp! Where are the children!"

Since when is cannibalism a good marketing technique. Those adds just creep me out!

I've haven't seen the ad, haven't watched teevee in a LONG time. But in the movie, correct me if I'm wrong, Kirk just sat there, as Tony, then all the others, stood up to claim being Spartacus. Kirk commenced to shed tears over his men's loyalty.

I first heard about that one BK commercial on FR, and the posters were right. The way the King is first seen very far away and without warning is right THERE in front of the guy is extremely unsettling. It was even worse than the first FR description, since the Freepers didn't mention that plastic face.
