"Courage. Integrity. Valor.
"'Faith of My Fathers' is the true story of one mans honor in the face of adversity. From his rookie years at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, we watch John McCain's journey from brash Pensacola pilot to courageous Vietnam POW. There, caught in a political power play, the young McCain is forced to choose between the country he loves and his own survival. Through gripping flashbacks, we see how each experience and the enduring strength of his family legacy shapes the man--and the public servant--he would become."
Is this a biopic that FReepers will watch?
Or is it a CBS sop to the presidential aspirations of Libs' favorite "Republican"?
I am sure the Keating Savings&Loan debacle will be glossed over as to show Johnny in the best light. The lame stream media wants to have McCain go against Hillary and I fear they wil lget what they want.
My thoughts? My gorge rises...
John McCain, the oft-RINO Senator and potential '08 GOP primary candidate, is certainly not my first--or second or even third--choice as the Republican nominee for President of the United States.
But I have little but unmitigated contempt for those who don't give him his due for the service he honorably rendered to this country, the tiny Coven around here that seems to despise everything about him be damned notwithstanding.
Exactly. Once a hero does not exempt you for being accountable for anti-American comments and behaviour for life. The signing of CFR, was the first best favor he ever did for Dems and Commies. Wonder if they'll show the part where he and Kerry agreed to shred MIA/POW records, to help open trade with Vietnam.
To each their own. I have little respect for McCain's RINO tendencies as a politician, but I will always have respect for his service to our country. That is something beyond politics, and should always be revered, regardless.
Post-filibuster-deal discussion BTTT
I was watching A & E last night and first learned about this.
Bump to comment tomorrow.
I agree, but one thing about McCain that always irked me was the fact that he had to always emphasise that he is former POW.
Senator Hagel also served in Vietnam (and actually was very heroic), and while I hate his rino tendenices, and respect his service, I also like the fact that he doesn't make his vietnam experience a core part of his image.
If I were John McCain I would be embarrassed about this movie. He comes across as a "loser". In high school he barely had the grades, but still got into the academy. As a prisoner, when he refused to leave given the opportunity, the movie didn't really explain his reasoning. All I could think about was, he has 3 children and a wife, but he doesn't take the offer. As far as I could tell from the movie, they didn't require anything of him to go home and it wasn't like he was taking some one else's place to go home. It didn't make sense. Then later he makes a "propaganda" tape of his "war crimes".
It was a disappointing movie and made me like him even less.
Very suspicious of the timing of this "bio-pic"...
Especially after McCain's recent "Night Of The Long Knives" used to stab the administration in the back.
Besides, I've got two more DVDs in my "Batman: The Animated Series, Vol. 2" and "Team America: World Police" to enjoy in its place.
Jack.
I have to wonder how close you paid attention to the movie.
The honor code says that the POW's should go home in order that they arrived. McCain was offered a chance to go home in front of men who had been there longer. That is why he didn't go. He stated in the movie that he would wait his turn.
Furthermore, (you write) "later he makes a "propaganda" tape of his "war crimes." As if he did that of his own free will. Did you watch the scenes where he was tortured. Suspended in mid air by his wrists, which were tied behind him. Did you watch where they beat him... on his arm and leg, which had not healed properly.
Did you also see the scene where he had to be told he made the tape... he didn't remember doing it... but when he was told he was ashamed. There was that nice scene with his father on the beach where he was appalled that he had done it.
I believe there is an encore presentation of it tonight... perhaps you need to watch it again.
It was on A&E all Sunday night. I'd sooner watch "Roseanne" and that's as low as a person can go......LOL.
I did miss the part where he said he didn't remember making the tape. If that is the case, it would explain a lot.
You and I seem to be the only ones who saw the movie. I would love to hear other's opinions.
