*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 4-5 way. I'm looking at the first one at valley vet. Fluvac Innovator 6 (3 way s sick, tet, flu, rhino). The only one I see that says 4 way is a rhino only. What are you counting?

You want one that has the sleeping sickness (2-3 types), tetanus, and flu. The one you are looking at is fine, I just don't vaccinate for rhino so I would use the Innovator 4 if I were using Ft Dodge. I just ordered Encevac TC-4 + VEE which is about the same thing. It's #25073.

Ok. I got the immz. You order the antitoxin tet don't you because they get the toxoid in the vaccine, right? Whay kind of PCN do most use?. There are about 6 brands.

I get the antitoxin to have on hand in case of a serious injury, rusty nails, wire, etc. Check the dosage on the penicillen and just get whatever is cheapest for the dosage. I generally pick it up at the feed store and get whatever is on hand but that's because I don't get it until I run out and you never know when that will be.

I'm sorry it takes me so long to reply to you here, I don't get around in AOL very well.

Done. That vaccine shipping charge got me but the vaccines 8 dollars cheaper and I would have spent more than 4 dollars in time and gas so I still came out ahead. Thanks.

In Texas, horses do need rabies vaccine. Every animal on my farm gets rabies vaccine: goats, big horses, little horses, donkey and of course, dogs and cats. I've already had 2 cases of rabid skunks hanging around my house in the last year. My husband killed them and we had them tested, they were positive for rabies.

I had no idea you didn't need a prescription for penicillen or tetanus, I'll be darn. I would add one more to your list of drugs to have on hand, Ace.

Did your vet give you a script for those vaccines?

No but I have to get the W Nile from him. Rabies wasn't on the list that he quoted me either. I'll have to ask about that today too. They overnight the vaccines so there was a 12 dollar shipping charge. The same vaccine was 17.95. The feedstore was 21.95.

The mare and foal belong to FrogInABlender... and I think they are both Racking horses.

Good morning everyone!

Hello,

Just hanging around a bit, Blake is sacked out on the couch. We will run a few errands in town, then come home and ride.

What time is your Lippazaner show? Will it be late before you get home with pictures:)?

Becky

I bet it will be pretty late. It's at 7:30 in the evening... couple hour show probably and an hour home.... all in Pacific time. So we'll post them late, and all but the night owls will probably see them in the morning!
