The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

SEPs are probably against ordinance too. Most of the things they ban seem to be someone else's problem :P

My coworker has a portable SEP generator that he uses to avoid DemonLady. Wish he'd loan it to me.

LOL!! No, never dreamed of having buffalo. Steve has, though...but wild, running through our range like in the olden days.
I don't think that's gonna happen...

Anyone cut themselves on their ShootMoot knife yet? I did. Always assume every firearm is loaded, and every knife is sharp as a scalpel. Especially after I get done stropping them. Those little knives got the same treatment our top-of-the-line Camillus fighting knife gets.
I find sharpening the knives very satisfying, because it's a chance to put a little bit of my own personal effort into each knife before it goes out. But I have every sharpening device known to man, and constantly look for something better. One can never have enough tools.
I've been concerned during the entire life of our project about keeping the knives sharp once in the hands of the troops. The CRKT, with its one-sided chisel grind, needs a skilled hand in sharpening. Knives with the standard V-grind can be handled with more conventional jig sharpeners that do a good job without demanding much skill on the part of the user.
A while back, an online knife store had a sale on $4 Gerber ceramic sharpeners for $1. I bought 20, and have sent them out with larger shipments of knives. Ceramic is good for maintaining an edge on these high-tech steels, but real sharpening demands diamonds.
Now I'm getting (I hope) Gerber diamond sharpeners for $2 each. This time I was bolder, and ordered 100. I hope I get all 100 without any hassle. Dealers start asking questions when large quantities are involved.
The bottom line is, a sharp knife is a safe knife. When you know it's at its sharpest, you know you can use less force in cutting, with less chance of the blade taking off in unexpected directions.

Yep, this one got me good...the question of how sharp it is was answered. Sliced right into the side of my thumb.
I still love it!

We're realizing we don't know the apartment complex's rule on firearms. I didn't even ask here. Why open the worm can? The 6 assorted bullet-launchers stay in the closet anyway...took two of them out to the Silver Bullet a few weeks ago...but distance to the car was 30 feet vertical and 40 horizontal, so big deal.
Am I incoherent first thing in the morning, or what?
