Very Important Privacy Issue
Beginning May 2005, a new database has been available to the general public, free of charge, that displays your personal information: (names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates). Names of many people whom I know are there, and so are many of yours.
The database is found at http://www.zabasearch.com/. I urge you to send this information to family and friends. Check to see if your name and information is in their database.
If so and you want it removed, send them an e-mail at info@zabasearch.com to request that your name be removed.
I do not know how our names are appearing there, but I checked my own and a few other random ones, and they are all in this database!
After opting out by email, check back after a few days to make certain your information has been removed.
Displaying such information should be a crime - but it apparently is not.
Holy Crap! They have me listed 7 times! all the wrong info though, guess it pay to have been in the military moving around alot. But holy Crap!
It doesn't have my name. Well, actually it does, but it's a guy that died about 7 years ago, other than that, nothing. I wouldn't really care if they did, anyways, but I can see some people getting very unhappy.
I think it's based on phonebooks.
Why? I have a cell phone, not a land line, and my name doesn't appear. My parents used to have two lines, and there's a seperate entry for them with each number. It might not be the only way they get info, but I'll bet most of it's from there.
It appears to be based on (published) phone records and on real estate ownership records.
It's not based on phone books. They have me living at place where I own property but have an unlisted number
Very creepy.
Does anyone know, if told do remove names, DO THEY???
I'm not on there thankfully.
So that identifies at least two sources of info. Sounds like it's probably all based on public records. This just makes it easier for someone to get their hands on info they could otherwise find with a lot of effort.
Yep Im there, but the information is outdated. I doubt the $20 background search would be worth much.
Me too. Unlisted phone number
Why do you continuously post this sensationalist crap? You lower the quality of discourse on FR post ALL CAP OMG BIG BROTHER!!!!1oneone1eleven drivel all the time.
well, I am there twice, for present and former address. It can't be property ownership, since I do not own this property.
please, chill
"We received your request. The following is the fastest way to create, edit or block your records from appearing in ZabaSearch. ZabaTools allow you to take control of the information available about you or to manage how you allow others to communicate with you. You can create, edit, block your record or add a ZabaLink all for free.
"Why create a record? If you don't exist in ZabaSearch and would like to be included.
"Why edit a record? If you are in ZabaSearch, but would like to update your information. Or, add your e-mail address or your web site URL to your record.
"Why block a record ?** If you want to block your address and/or telephone number.
"Add a free ZabaLink! Instead of blocking a record, consider replacing your address and/or telephone number with a ZabaLink*.
"If someone finds and clicks your ZabaLink (placed where your address or telephone number was), they will come to an e-mail form that will allow them to send a message to you without knowing your e-mail address, where you are, or if you ever even received the message. You can respond, ignore, or send back a non-delivery notice. ZabaLinks empower you to control how people can communicate with you on the Internet. You can be found, only if you want to be, on a person by person basis. And, ZabaLinks are free!
"In order to create, edit, or block your record and/or to add a ZabaLink, all for free, you must make that request in writing and mail it to: ZabaTools, P.O. Box 45210 Omaha, NE 68145.
"Receiving requests by mail allows us to verify and process your requests quickly. Records created, edited and ZabaLinks added may take up to several weeks to appear in ZabaSearch. Records requested to be blocked are typically processed the next business day after receiving the request.
"You will be notified by e-mail when you request enters our system and then once more when the requested records have been adjusted. Please specify if you want to create, edit, delete a record and/or add a free ZabaLink, e-mail address or URL to your record. If you add a free ZabaLink, please include the e-mail address where you would like messages blindly forwarded to from your ZabaLink.
"In order to fill your request your letter must contain the following information to insure we create, edit or delete the correct records. After you confirm by e-mail that we processed your request, your letter and the information you provided in it will be shredded. You will have created a record for yourself just as you like it and will be eventually given online tools to adjust your information as you like live in ZabaSearch 24/7.
1. E-mail address
2. Full name including middle initial
3. Address of the record you wish to create, edit or delete
4. Phone number you wish to have removed
5. Year of birth.
6. Specify if you are requesting to create, edit or delete a record or if you want to add a ZabaLink
or URL to your record.
7. Sign and date your request"
They have started to update my clearance and it is accurate. Do you know for sure that they will remove the info?
It has JerseyHighlander's address, FYI.
no idea whatsoever.
Gee, isn't this like giving them more info for the fire? Do we have any laywers around that can give us some advice?
We certainly should have a case, if there is a lawyer. Many women, children, and even men, have protective orders, and that person cannot know where they live. This site is asking for HUGE trouble if one of them is put in danger!
DON'T BE AN IDIOT AND GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY OF THIS INFORMATION.
THIS IS CALLED "PHYSHING" - they are fishing for your credit and personal information so they can either sell it or use it to steal your identity.
Last week I got 3 requests from banks to "update my account" - I DON'T HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH ANY OF THOSE BANKS. I SENT THE EMAIL LINK INFO INSTEAD TO THE SECRET SERVICE.
I thought the same thing, which is why I refuse to srite and tell them anything. But like I said, they need to remove addresses as well.
My cover is good! Not listed...
Hopefully, this will put the brakes on this intrusion...
uhm... phonebook?
They go by phone records mostly, and some of their info is wrong.

Whoa, thanks for the heads up! My husband and I and very nearly everyone we know, that I entered is on the list. Very scary.
The address thing doesn't bother me as much as the birthdate. That isn't coming from phone records.
Wonder what people have access to if they pay for the background check?
Thanks for the heads' up. I didn't think about that.
Found myself listed 6 times! Thanks for posting this. Notifying everyone I know who would like this intrusion of their privacy.
Yep, I been getting a lot of those lately too.
Makes me wonder how stupid they think people are.
There's a ton of information that's easy to get. If I was doing ops research for a political campaign, I could find out quite a bit from public record between the internet, clerks office, deeds office, campaign finance records, voter files, and everything else.
That doesn't even account for marketing sales.
In other words......I've been had???
No. Can't be. My phone is not in my name; neither is any real estate - and this has been the case for 5 years.
They must be able to compile this information from general internet traffic.......even the information that you give in order to register for your ISP. As for D.O.B., that can be obtained in a number of ways.
To me, this is very much of concern. Privacy is gone when a site like this can exist.

"But ... they need to remove addresses as well."
How do you know they HAVE your address ..??
Did their email state what your address was and then ask you if you wanted it removed ..??
This isn't designed to put the brakes on any intrusion .. this is just part of it. They want your info.
If they want to just "verify" and then ask you if you want it removed .. did their email tell you your phone # and email address and ask you if you want it removed ..??
Good grief!
I didn't email them anything.....what are you referring to?
This just should be shown to elected officials on state and federal. They'll probably absolutely love seeing their addresses and phone numbers there - as in their home phone numbers.
Because if you type in your name, and it's listed, most of them have the addresses right there with the name. It's how I knew it was me, both times!
Shiny side out.
It's just uncomfortable.....
Beg pardon? Maybe just not in your particular instance.
In theory, you can get removed from the Zabasearch database - and/or correct any errors in the data. If you give the company your email address, it will send you an email with instructions for doing so. When you receive the email, you are told that any request to edit or delete your records must be in writing.
I'm there, but the only time I registered with the information provided, is on the internet.
They are not getting this from phone books, or property information since I have phone numbers listed and own property in different counties.
We all should be careful how much information we give out on the WORLD WIDE WEB.
big brother ping
Neither do I but I was in the phone book.
Sorry .. I guess I assumed you had sent them an email. I apologize.
