No. 10 Sugar Ray Leonard Leonard originally retired as a world champion after suffering a detached retina in 1982. He returned for one fight in 1984 against Kevin Howard and then retired again. Then in 1987, Leonard came back for a historic bout against middleweight champion Marvin Hagler. Leonard, a huge underdog, won a controversial split decision to regain the belt.

Michael Change, down but not out against Ivan Lendle in the French open. So physically messed up that Michael had to serve underhand.

They're talking about individual athlete, as in coming back from injury, or cancer, not teams coming back from behind.

Hagler won. Agreed! - But Hagler also fought the completely wrong fight and allowed SRL to make it to the final bell - He boxed way too much -
SRL was also given an even bigger gift decision when he was awarded a Draw with Hearns in their rematch - Hearn's won that fight easily -

Ditto that for me (watch them both via closed circuit TV - one at Joe Louis Arena, the other at the Palace just after it opened - those were before the PPV days).
Hagler should have took the fight to SRL early - Went more for a KO (then he did). Though he still won the fight - At the same time SRL was a hell of a fighter (like him or hate him and Ko'ing him wasn't an easy task).

How about Brett Favre? He had an addiction to pain killers. He got injured so much at the beginning of his career that he was constantly taking them. He went public with it, and got over his addiction.
