AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 1664) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | August 11, 2005 | All of Us

Posted on 08/11/2005 4:16:17 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

Good morning!!

Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

Crude oil futures zoomed by the $65/bbl level. Gasoline in some markets is reaching near $3.00 per gallon, a level desired once upon a time by the eko-wackos.

Democrats are now accusing the White House that it is delaying the release of documents on Judge Roberts so Republicans can get time above and beyond that of dimocRATS to review matieral that might be detrimental to the Judge's confirmation to the Supreme Court.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Here's a graphic you might want to add to your collection. I stole it from a thread yesterday and added it to my profile page. Maybe you can print it out LARGE and post it in your office in case any reporters show up ... :-)

Presidential debates are rarely helped by knowing what the opponent is going to say. The debate is won by figuring out what questions the media is going to ask. The job of a debate preparer is to think of all possible and/or likely curve balls the media will throw at your candidate so he cam prepare a response.

It is important to understand that most viewers of a debate are very ignorant of the issues and problems facing the nation. The voters are ill prepared to judge which approach to a problem is best.

What voters are good at, is judging the sincerely and level of commitment a candidate has on an issue or course of action.

The most important characteristic for a debater to show, is "I say what I believe and I believe what I say." If that is coupled with the impression the candidate will do what he believes is best for the nation, that candidate will win both the debates and the election. A synthetic candidate has difficulty. A candidate at ease with himself tends to do well.

If you recall the media really hyped Carter. After Carter totally surprised the media by beating Teddy Kennedy in the 1980 primaries, it became the media's firm belief that Carter was a slam dunk for re-election. The media coverage and early polls showed Carter a certain winner. After all Reagan had been beaten by Jerry Ford, and Carter had easily beaten Ford.

Thus much of the early Carter campaign was dedicated to sitting on a lead. With a substantial lead, the Carter camp saw debates as a negative. Carter had a good lead in the polls. If he debated Reagan he had nothing to gain an lots to lose.

Keep in mind both the media and Carter believed Carter could easily defeat Reagan in a debate. It was just a risk they did not want to take. The media really believed that Reagan was only a movie and TV actor.. He was superb, they assumed, at reading a script, but would fall flat on his face when called upon to ad lib in uncertain situations.

As the campaign came down to the final weeks Reagan's numbers improved and Carter's numbers decreased. Then with the trends showing Reagan a very possible winner, the Carter camp agreed to a single debate. It was to be held just 2 weeks before the election.

Reagan really wanted debates. He had gone so far as to debate independent candidate Anderson and and empty chair for Carter earlier in the campaign.

It is important to note that when Carter finally agreed to debate, he knew the campaign was trending to Reagan.

What was valuable to Reagan, was George Will accurately predicting the questions the media would try to use to trap Reagan. Will did predict a lot of the media's "When did you stop beating your wife?" questions. Reagan did not need to have people invent replies... He just needed to think about the questions and how bet to phrase his answers to trick questions.

What the media failed to understand is the significance of Ronald Reagan starting out doing Play by Play baseball at WHO Radio in De Moines Iowa. Reagan did the broadcasts of Chicago Cubs games for WHO. Back then an audio line from where ever the Cubs were playing was way too expensive. What Reagan got to work with was a WHO studio with three turntables with with baseball sound effects recordings. The information he worked from was a ticker tape with only the barest of details as to what actually took place in the game. For example a typical innings information might be...

1st Inning:...Clark Pitching .. Batting Smith SO... Jones Single... Black DP ..

From that Reagan had to invent what took place in the game. He had to describe each pitch, and each strike. He had to signal the engineer as to which sound effect to play. It was up to Reagan if Smith struck out on 3 pitched strikes or struck out on the 9th pitched ball after fouling two balls off. It was up to Reagan to determine if Smith struck out with a mighty swing, or a was caught looking at one over the middle of the plate. Reagan had to invent exactly how the double play that ended the inning took place. The Broadcast needed to sound live .... like it was coming from the ball park and not a studio in De Moines.

Doing play by play with such sketchy information was very hard to do. It is 2.5 hours of really having to think on your feet .. while talking non stop. A one minute commercial break between each half inning is it. He did it hundreds of times while at WHO. He was very good at it.

Carter when blind sided, went with his first thought. Reagan like all early play by play broadcasters could think one thing, signal engineers to do another thing, and convincingly deliver the words to describe a ball game... all at the same time.

The pampered TV elites and politicians like Carter always believed that Reagan had to be massively prepared. They were certain that Reagan had to have a script. That was just foolish wishful thinking.

It was the ticker tape baseball play by play that required fantastic skills. Reagan had them .. and had honed them as a very young man. It is like riding a bike. Once mastered the skill is never really lost.

Many people have wondered how Reagan, just out of college with a degree in economics, could get a play by play job on a 50 thousand watt power house station. The answer is they auditioned him. They gave him an old ticker tape and said call a game. He did it .. He did it very well. It is a talent that very few possess. Reagan could do it very well with zero experience... They hired him. He was a natual.

Will knows that it was Reagans ablities that defeated Carter. Carter is convinced Reagan had an unfair advantage... and of course he did. Reagan has a skill that only peaple who are very bright can master. .... his brain could multi-task.

Reagan's words never came from the tip of his tongue. They came from the back of his brain. A brain that could think ahead while convincingly talking to his audience.

Fascinating article. Thanks!!

Also, Peach...that Carter column & the info there. Carter absolutely turns my stomach. Agree with Jane on her assessment .

Why is it that every single stinking demoCRAT president, especially the last two, has been an absolute, COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER?? Why is this party allowed to put people on ballots?

Thanks, Molly! I have not yet heard if they have figured out the FUEL SENSOR problem. Didn't we just get over a FUEL SENSOR problem in the shuttle's external tank? SHEESH!

D@MN, D@MN, D@MN ! ! !

I just called the surgeon's office to find out WHY I haven't heard from them. Bless his little heart. He's off until the first of the month and I shouldn't expect to hear from them until he's read the tests.

Color me annoyed.

As a matter of fact, it's the LIQUID HYDROGEN sensors on the Centaur (which is the only part I have not touched), just like the LIQUID HYDROGEN sensors in the external tank! From the launch manager:

"We had gotten liquid oxygen loaded into both (Atlas and Centaur) stages, and as we were getting into automatic loading of liquid hydrogen into the Centaur we had the propellant load system showing that the sensors were dry when some of the screens and the data that we were getting was showing wet. So we had a discrepancy there," explained NASA launch manager Chuck Dovale.

This is TOO wierd! YIKES!

Just to give you a little perspective on home & property values, I'm typing verbatum from my local (weekly) newspaper:

Acreage for Sale: 3 bedroom home on 4 Acres. 2 and a half baths, fireplace, large machine shed, barn. 3 miles West of Sigourney. $128,000.

Now perhaps you understand why I was so stunned at the asking prices of the homes you've been looking at.

oh my, 2/3rds, that IS odd!

IG, the dr. should have alerted you to that delay, it seems like. BTW, I had that surgery too...fall of '01. No problems since, but it did take a few months for the nerves in that wrist to settle down, back to normal.

I'm just mainly concerned with having a window of opportunity to get it done and get one with my life.

This could be an article

Thank you for the kind words.

This has been quite a week. Last week Lisa was not feeling well. She could not get an appointment with her regular doctor for a couple of weeks so we went to urgent care.

Her blood pressure was through the roof. The urgent care doctor called her regular doctor and said she needed to be seen quickly. The urgent care doc put her on blood pressure pills and other medicine to hold her over until Monday.

Then Monday morning she saw her regular doctor who ordered other tests and by afternoon she was being examined by a cardiologist. Tuesday she was in a Columbus, Ohio hospital for a heart cathertization and other heart tests. We brought her home late Tuesday.

She has some blockage, very high blood pressure, and a terrible cholesterol rating. She has strict orders for a lifestyle change.

I've been doing all the chores here at home.. including cooking, cleaning, laundry,.. even doing Lisa's hair.

I told Lisa's daughter if her Mom has me doing any more feminine things for her, I'm going to have to start speaking with a lisp...

Lisa is doing a lot better.. I think it was caught in time. For the first time in her life she is eating a healthy diet. She does not like it. Lisa will likely go back to work Monday.

So here is the situation. Lisa is recovering and I have dishpan hands.
