I already have a controller - CheneyChick is a lvl32 "pet" controller on Champion. She is nothing without her team, but she makes a team unstoppable.

W Bush, played by a friend of mine, is a lvl33 scrapper who kicks all KINDS of ass. (He's not a FReeper but is slowly being cajoled.)

I was thinking we could start fresh on a new server since none of us play on the same server, apparently. Starting from 1st would be kind of cool, and we could do some specializing to complement each other. If someone else wanted to make a controller, I could do something else. We wouldnt have to be Bush, Cheney, etc., either, if I werent to do the Rove char, would probably do a Captain America type guy. I play on Liberty, we could probably do this on Champion or some server that we arent all loaded up on chars on. Just a thought...JFK

Cool! 6 members on the team, a few questions. Which server should be start up on? Champion is fine with me if it is with everyone else. I play on Liberty, and have a couple of chars that could provide some finances for the start up team. Also, what archetypes would everyone like to play? For those who do not have the game yet, each has a primary and secondary power group and the choices are...

Tanker (primary: defense, secondary: melee attacks)
Scrapper (melee, defense)
Blaster (ranged attack, support)
Controller (control, buff)
or defender (buff, ranged)

Defenders and controllers are the primary healers. Tankers can be nearly invulnerable, scrappers and blasters can do huge damage, but draw lots of bad guys on them. We should be complementary, and I would choose a controller, but if someone else wanted to be a controller, I could pick something else.

Perhaps we could pick a date to meet on the server of our choice, Ill just go ahead and nominate either Liberty and Champion. Liberty because I could donate some $$$ to the team to help out, and Champion because it was mentioned previously. Let me know...JFK

What kind of character do you recommend to start with?

Do y'all have room for one more on your team? I have a Condi character (Blaster) all ready to go on the Champion server but I can recreate her wherever.

Well, a blaster is pretty easy to start with, basically throw damage at your opponents and then try to survive in case you ended up aggroing them. A tanker is also good, and every team needs one. Tankers are generally known as 'meat puppets' because they can take so much aggro and tend to distract opponents away from more delicate archs such as controllers and blasters. Tankers will usually take a taunt power to draw more badguys to them. Defenders can be tricky, as there are basically 2 types, healer and buff/debuff, both of which are very important to the team. Controllers and defenders can be frustrating for newbies; controllers because they are wusses and dont have extremely effectcive powers early on, and defenders(healing style) because the targeting interface can make it difficult and frustrating to be able to target your teammates and therefore heal effectively. Of those 2, defenders are likely the better option on early playability, considering that their secondary power set of ranged attacks is pretty powerful for team offense.

Scrappers are also relatively easy to play, up close and personal, dealing lots of damage.

If you are at all familiar with comic book characters, here are some equivalents...

Scrapper: Wolverine, Captain America, Spider-Man
Blaster: Human Torch, Punisher
Tanker: Hulk, Thor
Defender: Doctor Stange, Green Lantern

Controller: Magneto, Professor X

Those are some basic comparisons. Also, dont go into the game thinking about copying an existing, copyrighted character. The mods will change your costume, and they name of your char will become 'generichero2495'. Literally.

One more thing, meant for everyone but primarily for the experiecnced players. My controller will be a mind control/force field controller, but if no one decided to play an empathy healer, the party will have no 'real' healer, and I could take empathy instead of force field and perform some healing duties, but I figured that a controller named Karl Rove should be able to control the minds of his enemies and provide teflon style protection to his mates. Not that playing an empathy defender sucks or anything, but if no one wants to play one, I could alter my character plan a little...JFK

Forgot to ping everyone. And sure Hap, lets settle on Liberty server, we have some advantages there. On the Global Chat, my name is POKERFACE. Anyone who wants to start up there can go ahead and do so immediately.

So far it looks like we have 3 characters, a scapper, a defender, and a controller. A tanker is a given, and blasters are great damage dealers. Hate to be PC, but good diversity is great for teams, but play what you want people! If you are having trouble thinking up something and know a superhero that you like, let me know, I can try to map the best path for you.

And hey, Xenalyte, will your defender choose the empathy set? If I knew, I could get started on my char right away. Let me know please...JFK

Has anyone ever had the problem in BF2 where your teammates get the red enemy symbol. I tk'd a half a dozen times today because my teammates kept showing up as enemies.

I've had the problem a lot where I got no red or blue tags, and had to assume red, but I havn't seen a teammate show up with red tags. It's either a hack, or your seeing enemy and friendlies too close together... i don't know.

That is how I bagged safrguns one night as an AT. He had no tag and with a competing tank comin at him I mistook the M1 for the other in the sight and well...he did not punish however. Funny how his name popped after I was away and could not stop with a full side shot. I keep wondering about that.

I like the game, but it's pretty buggy compared to all the other shooters I've played. It's almost as if they let the Sims people work on it.

The slow menus and no escaping is one thing I first noticed. The lack of the ability to change your name without registering a whole new profile is silly too.

Then there are some people who just shouldn't mod. I was just on a server that evidently had a mod that tried to make the concussion of being hit or having arty drop nearby more realistic. In effect, they seemed to have just written delay loops because every time you got the least little hit, the game would crawl and stutter until you finally died. That was usually right away because you would be standing there with your guy stuttering and someone would walk up and shoot you.

I can't wait for Operation Flashpoint 2 to come out, though I've been waiting for years now. It's supposed to be out next spring, but then again, each year they've pushed the date back another few months. The original OFP was great. It had a command structure like BF2, with commanders able to give orders. It also had tanks, helicopters and planes.

The biggest problem with it was it's multiplayer interface. You had to get a group together and wait for everyone to get ready to join a game. It was mission oriented, so there was no respawning and everyone had to join at the same time.

The vehicle simulations were pretty good in the original. If the second version ever comes out, I expect it to be excellent.

I have to apologize too if anyone said anything to me and it seemed that I ignored it. I still haven't gotten to where I can absorb all the messages going by. Is there an option to increase the font size or position of the messages?

What do you guys use to fly, the mouse or joystick? I tried with the mouse - I ate dirt. I tried with just the keyboard and the same thing. I could try not touching the controls and my helicopter will pitch over and flip. I finally hooked up my old sidewinder. It may be promising. I'll have to mess with the sensitivity settings and whatnot.

No worries. It all takes time to get used to. I don't think there is a font option. I also use a Sidewinder. BF2 has a longer learning curve than most games I've ever played. BTW, to join a squad, hit enter, hit squads, then look around for your freeper friends and join us. Make sure u exit the squad screen back to the weapons screen to spawn.

There are two types of sensitivity settings in BF2... mouse sensitivity, and yaw/pitch factors. For the tank, I have the mouse sensitivity set at 3, and the horizontal yaw at 5. For helicoptor I forget, but its probably set at 3 and 3. Your last option (settings) is the correct one. I use mouse and keyboard... it's always been much more accurate and precise than a joystick.
