The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ohhh...they're back home. I was confused!

But it'd be neat! If I ever get a little piece of land with room to grow grapes, I'd like to give it a try. According to Dad, wine making is relatively easy, except the waiting part...

Morning OT - sorry to hear you missed the venison. Going to try again this evening?

Off adventuring again, you are a well traveled hobbit lass.

No way! Kept an eye out for deer all the way home. I had just turned into the driveway when Bambi comes bounding out of the neighbor's yard right in front of me!

Sister is a little nervous that I'm flying on 9/11.

We're about to settle in an watch a movie this morning... but here's a great photo diary from a guy who weathered the storm in the French Quarter and took a lot of pictures of the aftermath, including looting, flooding, and the Convention Center. I'd recommend flipping through the whole show.

I'm baaaaaack!

The only pork shoulder they had was a 9-pounder!

2J - do ya think I can eat 2 pounds of liver pudding before the 21st?

Hair - as usual, I didn't pack for the chilly clime of airplane interiors....so I made a stop at the Mortex outlet. Got a fleece jacket that zips up the front to pack in my carry on...and a sweater...and two shirts. Would have gotten a comforter but I didn't want to drag it through the airport.

Went to take a closer look at the grapevines. It's been so dry that the leaves are curling and the little grapes are about the size of a grape seed. Don't think we're going to have too much of a crop this year.

We camped up at Adams Falls State Park northwest of Scranton when Paul and David were very little. It was a fun trip, and the park was gorgeous. Only wrinkle was the tent on the site over from us. It was two couples, and the guys decided to go out drinking one night. They returned in the middle of the night and the shouting commenced. SirKit heard them, I guess I was out like a light! The next morning, when we looked over at their tent, half of it was down because one of the guys had stumbled out drunk and fell on it.

Thankfully, they left that night.

We just got back from the Mall. SirKit stayed in the van while I ran in to buy a new coffeepot. We decided to go with one that has a thermal carafe. That way, if we sleep through the alarms and forgot and had the pot programmed for an earlier take off, the coffee won't be 'cooked'. Just ran a pot so we're gonna try it out.

I got it at Filene's because they were having a sale, and while I was there I popped over to bedding. They had some nice sized microfiber-covered down throws for $20; they were regularly $60!! I needed something for the new couch in the basement for when we're watching TV in the winter. Gets a mite chilly down there. I had the two at the register, then decided to get two more to give one each to Paul and David for Christmas!

Then we went to eat at a new 'Mexican' place. It was just delicious!! We hadn't found a decent Mex place anywhere near here that wasn't greasy spoon stuff, so we're definitely going back. I got a Rico Rita, a margarita made with Suarzo Tequila, Captain Morgan spiced rum, Coconut rum and pineapple juice. It was like a Pina Colada Margarita and it was just YUMMY!
