With Diddy at the helm, it was no surprise the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards was hip-hop heavy, but rockers Green Day ruled the night taking home seven awards.

Green Day's album "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" earned the California punks seven out of eight awards during the ceremony broadcast live from Miami Sunday night, including Video of the Year, Best Rock Video, Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Cinematography and the coveted Viewer's Choice Award

In accepting for Best Rock Video, vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong said, "It's great to know rock music still has a place on MTV."

Former "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson continued to build her rock cred by winning Best Female Video and Best Pop Video for her single, "Since U Been Gone."

Missy Elliott and Gwen Stefani had six nominations each and both picked up a pair of the moonmen trophies while the Gorillaz took awards for Breakthrough Video and Best Special Effects for "Feel Good Inc."

I'm very disappointed in her trashy look. She had a down-home, country girl look that was very refreshing. It sure didn't take long for Hollywood to corrupt her. So much for that clean, wholesome look. I liked her the way she was, not the way they have made her. Btw, thanks for the ping. :o)

She walked the wrong way to the stage and ended up getting drenched by fountains.

Hi Jonny. Thanks so much for posting this thread and for pinging me to it.

I made a point of watching the VMAs last night just to see Kelly, but I must say it was more like torture than entertainment. Much of the show was filled with rap and hip-hop, which is just not my thing at all.

Interestingly, though, most of the top awards went to rock artists this year. Green Day's much deserved awards for 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams,' for example. And, of course, Kelly.

She was her usual semi-dorky, sweet girl-next-door self. I like this photo the best:

She was so surprised when she won her first award that she told the audience she wasn't prepared and didn't "bring a posse."

...P. Diddy, or whatever the hell you call yourself.

LOL! He actually did a complete segment on why he changed his name so often during different periods in his life, starting with a naked baby photo of himself when he still used his birth name. The man's been through more names than a chameleon through colors.

I wonder if the moonbats and conspiracy kooks are going to add Kelly to the list of satanist elites who give the Longhorn salute?

LOL, Johnny, your response was classic. But there's another reason why the moobats might freak. Kelly had a Christian cross tattooed inside one of her wrists. She says it keeps her humble.

All that's left is for him to go by a symbol, like Prince did.

No, then she would be a "Christian" and everyone knows that is much worse. Hi Emily. Kelly is a Christian and proud of it. See my post #48.

Are they really the best there is?

No, but then the VMA's aren't about rewarding the best music, just the best music videos. Besides Green Day's 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' is a fine song and it was a big hit this year.

An still nobody has claimed the $50 bucks for being the first to video themselves taking a $hi+ on Ryan Seacrests star.

I might just have to wheel down to hollywood and do it myself.

Somebodys got to.

Kelly did the closing act for the VMAs under a manufactured rain storm. Immediately afterwards, she went backstage, still soaking wet, to do the obligatory press conference.

She went from "girl next door" to Brittany-mold slut.

Actually, that's far from the truth. Kelly is one of the cleanest artists in pop music today. She's a 23-yr-old who dresses like a modern, hip 23-yr-old. But she had not done any of the Britney-type pop tart stuff.

Yeah. If I have the progression right, he went from Sean Combs, to Sean 'Puff' Combs, to Puff Daddy Combs, to P. Diddy, and now to Diddy. Only thing left is a symbol that he thinks stands for Diddy.

I know slut-dress when I see it. She can't depend on her voice, so she tarts up big time (if you think that her pants down to her pubis isn't tarting then I assume you are Gen-Xer).

She waters down her singing by slutting up (or down). As I said, sad. As I didn't say: unnecessary.

From the Miami Herald fashion review...

As for the lovely ladies: Human boombox Kelly Clarkson squeezed into a vintage gold low-backed gown that matched her ever-changing hair color. "I get bored. It may be fire red tomorrow." From a distance, the American Idol winner resembled an Oscar statuette.

From the Miami Herald VMA show review, talking about the VMA producers' heavy emphasis on rap and hip-hop (which is losing some popularity these days)...

Maybe afraid of the present, the show obsessed about the past. There were several old-school flashbacks to MTV's heyday, from Hammer to Beavis and Butthead. Diddy seems to have brought an urban theme to the evening. He even shook his booty with Campbell -- one king of Miami passing his crown to another.

With Green Day and Kelly Clarkson sucking up awards, and they, Coldplay and Mariah Carey giving some of the best performances, the evening belonged as much to rock and pop as hip-hop. Maybe that's why some rappers brought their feuds to the forefront this year, to the historically beef-free VMAs: They were starving for attention. It was a bonehead move.

August 29, 2005 - World Entertainment News Network
American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson ended the MTV Video Music Awards in Miami, Florida, last night by getting wet as it rained inside the American Airlines Arena.

The rocker performed her hit Since U Been Gone, which won her two awards, at the show's climax and thrilled audience members by singing the song in the rain.

I know slut-dress when I see it.

As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So you see what you see.

What I -- a baby boomer -- see is a young, vibrant 23-yr-old woman who wears the fashions of our times. Baby boomers also went through a hip-hugger, mini-skirt period, by the way.

When Kelly arrived for the show, she had an elegant hairdo, and was dressed in a lovely, plain gold satin gown with a fashionable -- by today's standards -- bare back. In case you think this is something new, in one of her movies from the early 1960's (with Rod Taylor), Doris Day wore a gold, beaded, tight bare back gown. It was very comparable to the one Kelly wore last night. As I recall, no one ever mistook Doris Day for a slut.

I think she is a below average looking girl who has to use every trick in the book to not look like a cook at Burger King.
She does have a strong voice, poor dressing tastes and a great growing bank account. :-)

Wish her well, but she for female singers for me is what Davenport is to female tennis players.

BTW, bikinis on any beach around the world are more revealing than the costume Kelly wore for her performance. So I guess to you any woman in a bikini is a slut. You wouldn't be an Islamist, by any chance, would you?
