Opening bell rings as crew arrives for 'Knight School'

"Knight School" will be in session beginning today as the reality show centered on the Texas Tech men's basketball team and head coach Bob Knight begins filming.

Rob Lundgren, one of the executive producers of the show, arrived in Lubbock on Friday and said the pre-production process has gone smoother than anticipated.

"This has been a fabulous collaboration," Lundgren said. "The people at Texas Tech have been wonderful, everyone at the university. There are a lot of elements that are involved, and we've been in television for a long time and everyone in our crew has said that they've never had the support like they have had here, and I'm not kidding."

Lundgren said the process will begin today with 45 to 50 players being whittled down to the final 16 that will compete on the show. A limited crew has arrived to film today's elimination process, which will be included in the show's first episode scheduled to air Feb. 19 on ESPN. The final 16 will compete for the chance to walk on the Tech men's basketball team for the 2006-07 season.

A full camera crew will arrive next weekend to begin filming the final 16 participants 24 hours a day, Lundgren said.

The participants have signed a confidentially agreement to maintain the suspense for the future shows.

Along with the basketball aspect of the show, participants will compete in different challenges. Some of the challenges are still in the works, Lundgren said.

"We're still kind of pounding away at that," he said. "It will be interesting, that's for sure. They will each revolve around the scene of the specific episode.

"We've plotted out some things, but also we're going to see how it unfolds. We've got a road map, but throughout the process it will take us to different roads based on what happens."

The players - and Tech coaches - must also abide by NCAA rules, meaning Knight and his staff will be allowed two hours per week of basketball and six hours per week of conditioning with the participants.

Lundgren said he hopes to wrap up filming on Oct. 5.

"We love this town," he said. "We have a huge team in here from Tennessee and California, and we've all said it's a great city and a great university. So, here we go."

I wanna be in Knight's School. Too bad that the team doesn't have a spot for a 31 year-old grad student...

Well you know me, do you doubt that my daughter is brilliant? (OK, she takes after her father - I gave her the social side of her personality!)

She is enjoying the semester a lot - thanks for asking - glad you have some achievers in the classroom this semester!

Overall, the kiddies are doing well. Many of them are in academic programmes that are leading into areas such as nursing so they need to maintain a good GPA. This means that they are working hard to do well.
