ROMULUS, Mich. (Oct. 6, 2005) -- Miami was awarded the 2010 Super Bowl -- the 10th time the city will host the title game.
Atlanta, Houston and Miami made a final pitch for the marquee event at an NFL owners meeting in this Detroit suburb about 25 miles from Ford Field, where the next Super Bowl will be played.
Atlanta and Houston entered the vote as favorites because Miami already had been picked for the 2007 game. After 2010, Miami will top New Orleans' record of nine for hosting the most Super Bowl games.
The 2010 Super Bowl originally was awarded to New York on the condition that a new stadium be built for the Jets. Those plans, however, fell through.
NFL ping.
Cool, now I can plan on being in town for 2007 and 2010 and going with my dad (who lives in South Florida) to the Super Bowl.
So long as it's outdoors, don't like indoor Superbowls, the biggest game should be played the way the game should always be played... in the wind.
Tagliabutthead hates St. Louis, so we will not get one until he goes...hopefully sooner, rather than later.
Not surprising. Miami has consistently been in the Super Bowl rotation. I think New Orleans may have seen their last SB.
The Orange Bowl and the former Joe Robbie Stadium are both outdoors. Can't imagine a Super Bowl being played at a venue besides one of those two.
Not surprised Miami got the Super Bowl again. How can you not have Miami when within 20 miles of ProPlayer Stadium (which is a very modern facility well-designed to accommodate the Super Bowl) you have the South Beach section of Miami Beach, FL, perhaps the biggest party town in the USA?
When the bidders for the city offer exclusive boxes, private yacht outings, exclusive golf packages, and other perks to the owners who already have stated they will only vote on a place that is guaranteed to be warm in late January, they'll be few places but in Florida and California that will ever get a Superbowl again.
The only way another city will get it is if they build a new stadium, not just any new stadium, but a new domed stadium.
I find it really patheic. The SB has gotten so elite that it is literally the first game many who attend there have seen of the entire season.
