It appears the latest popular way to discredit those who publish opposing views on forums is to accuse them of being impostors, not really who they claim to be, the same person posting under several names, as though no two people could possibly share the same opinions. This has happened on a variety of sites on the internet. Moderators find it an easy way of doing away with people they don't like who stay within the rules. Whether it is on a TV forum, or a political forum, the trend seems to be the same. TV Heaven, a while back, accused two or three posters of being the same person because they each didn't like the new series of Dr Who despite the moderators having praised the show. Sterlingtimes has adopted this method also, and begun banning people while claiming they were impostors sent by a rival site to cause disruption. It has become so that, on certain sites, the moderators think that they are rather god like beings who hold the only valid opinions in the universe. In many cases their behaviour is rather petty. These forums and their causes are hardly earth shattering, and it's obvious that those running them think far too highly of themselves. Maybe it is only on the internet that they can come over as being of any importance, when in the real world they are nonentities. But, I suppose, such is cyberspace. Anyone can be who they want to be. Being a site moderator is a bit like being a monarch or president. For some, it is a power trip. Thankfully, however, there are still some forums where the moderators are rational and reasonable in their approach. Long may these decent moderators continue.
